    Insurance :( :look:

Its such a headache searching for insurance! 2 months before I'm 21, and the best quotes I can get (pretending online that I'm 21 today, with the same stats that I should have by then) and the best quote I can get is from Lancaster Classic Car Insurance for £1404 (And thats saying that I'll have a maximum millage of 8k/year :s)! Its frustrating that I only have 1years NCB (as I have only had insurance in my own name for a year) even though I've had 3yrs claim free driving now! Had a crash on 17/3/03 which was my fault that I put down as £500 (no idea how much it was, but the car was only worth £2000, and there was no hint at a possible write off).

What have you had as an insurance quote, considering that when I reach 21 I'll have 1yrs NCB and a crash over 3 years ago!

    Bummer.
Though £1400 for an S2 'aint really that bad for someone under 25.
I had quotes for the ur ranging from £400 to over £2500!.

The real PITA for me is that I had a full ncb, but with having a 'classic' policy for the last three years or so now means I've lost all of my no claims bonus!, I just wish someone told me that before!

(Anyone know of how to rescue my ncb?, or any companies that take my driving history into account and resume it?? )

I did click on the "modern car" insurance bit of the site, so I hope that I have normal insurance as opposed to classic car insurance!

i tried Flux and the best they could quote me was £1600 (i'm 25, 2 years no claims, 3pts for speeding, 40 in a 30...)

the best quote i have at the moment was from greenlight (www.greenlightinsurance.com) at £697, although i have to have a cat 1 thatcham alarm for that and currently struggling to work out if there's anyone reliable in london i can get to fit a TOAD for me...

[controversial] I don't know what you guys expect trying to insure a group 20 car, aged 20 or 21. I was still driving a 7 year old 1.3 Escort aged 21. I wish you no ill, but you really are going to take it where the sun don't shine trying to find insurance for these cars. I had to wait until I was 30 to buy an S2.

I firmly believe that you should work up to performance cars, which is reflected in the insurance premiums....

              Good luck.

I'm 23 with one accident nearly three years ago, 5 years NCB, and no convictions.

I pay £690 on the S2. (Unfortunately thats through elephant, will try and go elsewhere next time, apparently Brentacre and HIC are pretty good for it!)

I don't think you should be excluded from driving a performance car as a young person, however I think you have to accept that it is going to come at a price. If you want something badly enough you'll pay for it.

don't be to hard on your self fataudi80 I'm sure theres more posts like that to come

But you know hes right we should work up to these kind of cars over lots of years (its a b!tch but its true) for a start it is the exp we get at that ripe old age. I mean how can we say "I can handle a beast like this and day" cus the real drop dead true is you can't and some only work this out when, well when there in that audi shaped cutting in the hedge lying dead.

ok I can't talk much about being careful an all that over my recent tree dance in a gravel pit

There are ways of helping lower your quote while earning ncb like having a named exp driver like your mum or dad on it. Or alternativley going as a named driver on someone elses ncb policy.

Theres also dvla courses and police courses, with those sorts of certificates it should drop the price abit more.

But one way or another your gunna hav to bite the bullit, grab the bull by the horns and go "that was a big bite out of my *****".
can't always have your cake and eat it like...

All fairness now, its just that compromise we knew we had to make to drive a dream

I actually agree with Fatty, and i've owned turbo cars for 11 out my 14 years driving

The problem is in general young males drivers by nature are naturally reckless, before anybody jumps down my throught you know it's true if you live in a big city.
I'm not saying they can't handle the car, they can, but they push the car to the limits and are not sensible with the power.

In my city there was a high profile case of a scoobie driving at extreme speed near star city the 19 yr old driver lost control and landed ontop of a golf crushing it and the driver.

I would be in favour of changing the law limiting the engine size a driver can use by age.

Back on track lets try helping this guy out

have you tried adding a female driver?, your mother for instance and see if brings down the premium. In most cases it does help quite a bit.

when i took my insurance out with kwik fit they asked me how many years claims free driving i have on other cars, not just how many years i had to use on the policy regarding the s2,as i have another policy with 2years ncb's on. this reduced the policy by roughyl £400!also increasing the excess, and putting it as garaged on private property/commuting only/mileage below 5000!they all help to reduce the policy.

Age is by and large irrelevant though. You can still get older opeople with a bigger engine/more powerful car who will still drive like idiots.

                        [Throatjumper]

Insurance generally does not get cheaper. It would theoretically if you kept the same car for years on end. However as you get older, or more cash, or more NCB allows you get a newer/ more powerful car which in turn costs more than it previously did.

Since I was 17 I have been paying roughly around £1000 per year insurance. That is around my cut off point, and I genrally would sooner not have the car if it cost much more than that.
It is only since I went back to an RS2 again that it has dropped to around the £500 mark.....

The only advice I can offer is don't give up phoning for quotes.Even when you have had enough. There is always someone out there who comes up with an absolute peach of a quote........

interesting fact but very rarely publicised by insurance companies, is although men have more accidents than women over time, if you take that figure but do it on a per mile driven, then women have more accidents per mile driven then men

Agreed, insurance is generalised though not individually tailored if it was post code shouldn't make a difference but it is infact one of the biggest factors in your quote.

I can't get insurance on jap cars, always 2-4k quotes, S2 £700 in my first year and it's group 20, go figure.

Have you tried Tesco and RAC online, Elephant, Admiral, HIC, Firebond, Direct-Line, Budget.

also try confused.com, they may pull out a cracking quote out.

Its also worth getting an old copy of Max Power, Top Marques, and going through a few of your local independant brokers through your local Yellow Pages. It may take a good few hours though

Practically all of the policies any are underwritten by the main insurance bodies anyway, so it just depends how much cut the brokers try and squueze from you.
