there are some very lovely places to go , just depends wht you want to see and where you are going , loch lomond is worth a visit , edinburgh is good ,the borders and dumfries & galloway are very scenic
Scotland, great choice for a road trip.
I try to get up there at least every other year. I like mountains rugged coastline and great driving roads.
I make my way to the west side, once above Glasgow your on your way.
A82 down side of Loch Lomond, follow through Glen Coe to Fort William. Great road, can get busy. Try it earlier in the day! As you head further north west the roads get quieter and the driving and scenery more impressive
As youv'e probably worked out I prefer the open spaces to the cities, so can't really advise on touristy places.
I'm sure you will experience the best driving Scotland has to offer if you stick to the A roads all the way upto Ullapool and beyond. The single -track roads work very well with plenty of passing places, but driving is more stop start and progress a lot slower. The upside with the single-track is that they take you right to the coast and some great beaches.
A few words of advise, watch out for the 'Boys in Blue' very keen in Scotland, plenty of unmarked stuff about, mobile video vans and the like. Maybe not as bad right up North!
Midges are a big problem, they can eat you alive, really bad July-August. Don't forget the repellant.
Finally the Scottish weather need I say more!!!!!!!
Have a good drive in the s2.
RS2315.
Don't know why American flags have come up on my reply, I'm English and proud of it.
Loch Lomond, follow through Glen Coe to Fort William
The road from Loch Lomond past Glen Coe to Fort William is one of the best I have ever driven, try is as early in the morning as you can as other cars will spoil your fun. I was staying in Fort William for a week and twice got up silly early and hooned the Loch Lomond and back before the wife and kids got up
Were abouts in scotland you planning up North or just around edinburgh, glasgow?
If your heading up Inverness way give us a shout If you do come up his way the roads up west are excellant to places like lochcarron, applecross, ullapool some good long straights and some more demanding twisty routes JUST PERFECT FOR QUATTROS
Use Fort William as a base and drive to Mallaig (A820) one evening. If your lucky you'll get the road to yorself which is a good job because its a bit narrow in places
You'll have to come back the same way, but the views are amazing!
Head off to Skye and you'll pass Eilean Donnan Castle. You'll recognise it from many films (Highlander etc)
We went via Glanelg so that we could take the ferry "Over the sea to Skye". This is the rather twist road that you have to drive over!
And if you get to Skye head on up to Trotternish for some amazing landscapes!
thanks guys for the advice, the views in the pics look so good! Will try and make it to the places that have been suggested, hopefully gonna make it all the way to the highlands/maybe even to the shetlands!fingers crossed the s2 makes it!Will be the furthest its eva been if it does!Hopefully its gonna be a nice dry week to as were gonna be camping all the way!
