Newbie with Thoughts of an S2

Hi guys great forum as from the title I am thining of buying an S2 or S6 in the next 12 months. I currently run a mint MK II Golt GTI 16 valver which is a great car and would be hard to replace. I also have a MK I GTI as a project.

My job will mean going out for client meeting in the future and driving a lowered mint MK II GTI is not really going to cut it. I am thinking a subtle S2 coupe or Avant will fullfill my needs.

My main background is VW and I have searched the site and had a look at the various pitfalls etc. I also work with a guy who loves his Audi he owns an Audi S6 Avant with only 40k on the clock bought from a merchant banker in London who never used totally mint and for a great price.

I guess its a case of looking for the right car as most for sale seem pretty high miles or looked to have shady histories. I guess its a case of waiting and seeing what happens. I will keep an eye on the forum as I would prefer a car that has well cared for.

Anyone got any tips on where to look or any stories as to where they found there and how long they looked.

Don't be put off by high mileage - a bundle of history to show its been regularly maintained will speak volumes about the cars overall condition.

To be honest the vast majority of people on here with an S2 could be classed as '****' about keeping them in good shape, so the bundle of reciepts will cover usual as well as plenty of other upgrades, fixes etc.

Its definately buyer beware as with all major purchases but you can secure yourself a lot of car for good money if you do your homework thats for sure.

Just put your credit card on ice to ensure there's plenty on the limit for those power/brake upgrades

    Cheers

Hi Quiksilver, think I have seen you on NoRice a bit, red valver you picked up in Scotland?

Good to hear another potential crossover to the dark side!

As David says, mileage is not such a major concern, as long as it has been well cared for it'll keep going strong.

Good luck, sorry I can't be much more use!

It might not be a 5 pot or an S2... but at least I have a 20v Turbo in my life again.

          Do it

          HI Quiksilver and welcome!

I made the switch from Golf VR6 to RS2 and haven't regretted a single minute. Well, I do miss the Climatronic a bit and I'd found an excellent main dealer who I trusted and didn't charge £110 an hour! (Audi Main Dealer's don't yer love em).

I took me between 9 months and a year to find a half decent RS2, as I recall I looked at 7, so I guess patience is the key. I bought it from an S2 forum user and was the best example I could find. Having said that as soon as I'd bought it I had to shell out immediately on a hall sender , not I may add at a main dealer!

My advice is take your time, do yer research, drive a few of your chosen model and try and buy an enthusiasts car. Oh and have some funds spare, just in case!

          Good Luck

          Simon

Yeah I have a Mint J reg 16 valver took me a while to find but I do love it. Would love to keep it and have an S2 as well. I know in the not to distant future I will need to go out more and see clients, as clean as she is a lowered, loud Golf is not a great image.

I have been out in my colleagues S6 which is immaculate and has been remapped to say it flies is an understatement! This got me thinking right image and some serious power with reliability.

Ive only just sorted the MK II as well. I have a MK I project tempted to sell it and start saving for the S2 / S6 instead.

I will be browsing the forum for info and looking for any potential cars!

Hi Quiksilver, I'm a fellow dubber about to go S2 - got a VR6 Passat which is quickish for a big bus, but still far too slow. Would love to mod her more (lots of history together ) but just no point in FI with 2wd... so viola, S2 is required!
I've learnt a hell of a lot from this forum - a top notch bunch of guys n gals, stick around, we'll look after you.

Hi mate and welcome to S2Forum. You could not be in better hands with the guys &gals on here for info and advice.
If your thinking of gettting an S2 make sure it has FSH and receipts to back it up. this in my eyes is the most important thing, dont be rushed into buying anything.
I am speaking from experience as i made all these mistakes and it has cost me bundles of cash to get my S2 Avant sorted, and thats just to stock specs. 3,500 spent in the first 8 months, now i can start saving for the upgrades that i could of got with that money.
but to end i say there is nothing so amazing as driving such a low profile car that out performs 95% of the cars on the road.
