    New fuel milestone

Well I reached a new fuel milestone with the S2 this weekend, filled it up with Tesco's 99 in Baldock at 103.9 per litre and the total came to ............... £70

It might not be a 5 pot or an S2... but at least I have a 20v Turbo in my life again.

Is 99ron the best our cars can get then? I was thinking of running it on Ultimate or Optimax but seeing as theres one shell garage in cardiff and no BP garages, its a bit difficult! So 99 Tescos cuts the mustard then?

100.9 at my local tesco's... generally, 99ron is about 4p/l cheaper than optimax and I'd say it goes just as well, before my rebuild i'd have said was perhaps a tiny bit smoother but now even Esso's 97ron is smooth as hell.

I used to get 90.9 for my 99ron, when most other places wee 88.9 for regular - seemed a bit steep at the time

The "Wisdom of the Forum" says that Tesco99 is the Dog's Danglies, and superior to Optimax and Ultimate - both of these petrols fail to live up to their claimed 97 Octane and performance enhancement claims, according to those in the know.

You could always throw in the occasional bottle of Millers CVL Turbo to crank up the octane and MON, but that's not exactly a cheap way of running the car! Worth it for the occasional blast though!

Esso Supreme for me. Personally think it's better than the Optimax available locally.

Ok, well I'll let her run as dry as I have the balls to and the fill her up with 99ron. They say that it takes 2-3tanks before you start noticing the difference in fuel consumption. But i bet it only takes 20min to notice a difference in engine smoothness!

I should stay quiet but there is hell over here with 98 RON costing 0.52p/litre.-Thats it i am giving up drinking to pay for this.

my mate whos a dogs boll#### mechanic, used to have his own garage, told me if i use tesco fuel, that i should alternate between tesco and optimax because tesco fuel will eventally damage your engine, valves especally... maybe thats why its so much cheaper and a higher octane rating because it has less additives and less quality?...
                        dont mean to be depressing...
Im not perfect, but my dog loves me!

The reason it's 99 octane is that it's 5% bioethanol - ie it's got more additives in it than Schmoptimax!

Th**e shouldnt be any problems with your valves at all. the Optimax fuel along with all oth** unleaded meets the specification of fuel required for the S2 EN228 which can be 95 or 97+RON
