where are the cops when you need em like when old ladies get mugged robbed, pedos etc ok there doing there job but come on theres more cops bummin around in cars than cats eyes on the road.
we pay taxes for them and they arent doing i good job really are they.
if i drive about with a illegal plate i get more cop attention than i would if id have robbed a old lady in the street.

Sorry to hear about your personal circumstances, but you were asking for a tug.

      Those plates are show only.

        [two penn'orth]

Starting very very soon, police will crack down hard on anything like this, and stuff like failed sidelights - I was warned by my garage mechanic about it, he takes a keen interest in the trade naturally and he told me not to mess about when I had a damaged front plate on the old Micra.

The spacing is illegal, check out the DVLA about this - they can withdraw your plate without compensation if you have it spaced like this. The only correct format is the first letter and the numbers grouped together, a space, and the three letters grouped together. The font is now restricted to one type only and it is also defined on the DVLA site.

Frankly I am not a fan of plates that try to grab more attention than the rest of the car. Just bite the bullet and have a standard set, and if that ruins the point of having the "TEEN" word, go back to the original registration. It's only there to tell your car apart from someone else's. Sad but true.

but Mike, don't you get most of it back if you don't crash or something? i seem to remember the system worked on rebates? i never got round to buying a car out there, but one of my mates bought an old Jeep Cherokee for doing a 4 month DH MTBing trip round North America, starting in Calgary and it cost him 3 grand in insurance, but he got all but 400 dollars back at the end i think??

              Hi Tina
Sorry to hear about your nan, hope she gets better soon.
Also sorry to hear about your run in with the police, no one ever likes getting raked over the coals over things.

You should apparently fail the MOT for having non-standard numberplates too?

I would say though that there is a genuine point about the law on fonts on number plates - it's there to ensure that number plates are consistently legible. Whether you agree with the need to have legible plates or not, non-standard plates are clearly and obviously illegal, and in today's climate, more than likely to get you caught. Yes there are far more serious things that the police could be charging other people for, but there you go...

Just think, the police could be charging anybody of Welsh descent for being illegally within Chester's city walls after dark at the weekend, but they don't these days?!

"But they said the font was illegal.... not the spaces between it, no mention of logo either. "
I could of told you that one.

"and such equipment in a "POLO".... (bunch of tossers!!!!, they should be out doing their job to keep criminals off the streets, not a GirlRacer "

Well, they are doing their job, and very good too... they got you didnt they? Polo good disguise. And they are out there keeping criminals off the street, pulling cars over is part of the process to catch criminal drivers, Im sure your opinion would change if a criminal driver knocked over a pedestrian and police had the chance to pull them over and didnt? Why call them tossers for doing their job?

"sorry but to pull & patronise, ****** me off even more." Why pi**es you off? They are doing their job. Because of your font they coudnt read your plate with the new system which means they cannot check if your car is stolen, or taxed or insured. Im sure if your car got stolen and they recovered yoru car within an hour because of this new system you would not be calling them tossers!

Now pull your finger out and get a proper legal plate like the rest of us have to.

really? how do you know? have you robbed an old lady? and you do know that robbers/theives use cars to travel too, and its more likely they will have something to hide.. one way of doing so is having an illegal number plate so that the police cannot "automatically" check if the driver is legal or not.

This thred is BS. if you got an ILLEGAL number plate, whats the problem with police pulling you over? no brainer.

                    Totaly agree Ski
If you know its illegal then you can have no issues with being pulled for it.

I've been caught speeding a few times, but I didn't complain about it. Its a risk I take and I take it on the chin if I get caught. Story over!

hmmnn..... that might explain it Mike, I'll check with him. He did get his insurance in AB as well, so you may well be right. No PST in AB, too gotta love that oil

As for MTBing, he went pretty much all over the west coast and mid-west, visiting amongst others: Kamloops, North Shore (your neck of the woods), Mammoth, Vail, Boulder, Utah..... his bike (a GT lobo) did every major downhill course over there!

And then i bought the bike off him Still goes strong for me when i get a chance to ride it.

Hope you're enjoying Vancouver despite the insurance - its where I want to be living in a couple of year's time. I spent 2 summers in the rockies and loved it
