Correct speed reading

I have noticed there is difference between the analogue speed instrument and what the ECU coould be reading. I have tested with the average speed function of the board computer. For example if I am going at indicated 140 km/h and at that moment I reset the avg speed display, first speed it will show will be around 128 km/h. Can anyone else confirm this? What is the correct speed?

having worked developing clusters for an OEM, one of the things we have to include in the software is an offset parameter for the indicated speed ..... so don't trust the gauge trust the ECU, it has to be right for it's calculations
