    Bank Transfers

    Hi!

Getting peed off with being charged nearly £30 to transfer funds to Europe. So are there bank accounts that don't charge or charge less. There is a whole mountain of useless stuff I could get then! Its particularly annoying when the transfer costs exceed the value of the item.
    Ta!

I had this problem....£40 the halifax wanted...

THe BEST way around it is to get use an online calcualtor to work out the amount of sterling to ?? you need.

Go to your local main Post Office and they change the cash in to foreign for free........

THEN.......you give them an envelope with the dudes name on and ask them tio send it registered post....

It cost me about £3.50 to germany

and everyone accepts cash.....the currency is insured for up to £150 for this amount./

and iirc £6 is up to £500 and so on.

              HTH

plus// its signed for on delivery so no doubt its arrived!!

Interesting i have the opposite problem, free international bank transfers anywhere in the EU except for the UK which costs £15 a transaction. A work around i found (prob only works with my bank) is to send an international payment in euros, i.e convert the GBP amount to euros and send that amount. It actually works, you guys get the correct amount in sterling and it costs me nothing. ....dont think the bank have figured that one out yet :mischeif:

All done online, havent set foot in a bank for years. Can you not just use paypal to send money?

                      Thanks guys!
I should have explained it a bit better. I was talking about making payments to third parties in other countries.
Again it does seem to be a case of contributing to the massive profits of the Banks!
Unfortunately the Germans seem to be a reluctant to accept paypal which would simplify transactions. As long as you cover the related costs so they see the correct amount I can't see the problem. However the vendor has the right to set out the terms. If you want it then its up to you to comply.
I like S2dudes solution. No need to convert either as you will know the amount in Euros to pay. That certaintly cuts down the costs. Although I guess it might be problematic to try and persue a claim if something went wrong. On the otherhand, whats the difference between actual cash and something of value other than one being more difficult to convert in to readies. Other than that any transaction is based to a certain extent on trust.
Certaintly if you can cut down the costs then it makes it very worthwhile. The cost of the item is likely to be much lower. Carraige is going to be slightly more expensive. Overall large savings can be made.
I might try this later! Thanks for the idea!

                            No Problemo

I have used this loads of times for stuff from Germany mainly.....
beauty of it is....the cash is insured for whatver you agree at the PO so if by soem fluke the envelope did not arrive in tact or whatever....the PO pays out.
This is the benefit of recorded signed for deliveries.......no ambiguity about whether the parcel arrived ok.
Honesty of the sellerr must of course be assessed before sending but its only the same as a bank transfer.....they can not send the goods after that just the same.
Feedback is the key on that one IMHO!
