There are several programs which do this and wrap the files (in your case pictures) into an .exe file. In order to reverse engineer the originals out of it, it would help to know which software has been used.
Does right click --> properties give the manufacturer name in the version tab?
P.S. I agree with what was said earlier, the copyright is legally the photographers, not yours, if you read the small print. It matters not that you paid him and they are of you, since the contract was to supply contacts and prints. However, most photographers will give up/sell the negatives after a fixed period (although it is usually at least 7 years)

Thats what I want to do, but there is only one file on the disk and it is called SLIDESHOW.EXE. It is 21MB in size and I'm certain it has all the files encoded within it.
Thats exactly what i meant, just copy the slideshow.exe to the disk so that other people can access the .exe!!!
I'd imagine it's a standalone program.

Ah i see what you want.
hmm let me open up the box of hacks and see if anything is in there.
Screenshots can be taken using the Print Screen key, then you can paste into the (usually included) MS Paint application. But that will only let you do a maximum of screen size, naturally.
As someone who shoots images for fun and sometimes commercially, I do feel a little strongly when folk rip off my images! The law is actually straightforward - where no specific agreement has been made to sign over the copyright, the photographer owns copyright to any images he or she takes. It doesn't matter what the images are as long as they are legal, even if they are of someone's wedding.
European law is a bit different and there has been some rumbling of changes that would be more of a hindrance than a help - like expecting a release form to be signed by anyone and everyone appearing in a photograph (imagine trying to find the names and addresses of an entire football crowd, or at least the ones in shot, if you wanted to make commercial use of an image taken at a match?!!)
I know how it feels when someone wants money for their efforts and it feels unjustified or excessive - but I also know how it feels when someone wants to rip you off for nothing. Some of the stuff I have done can cost me in excess of £250 for three hours of shooting, I need to make that back just to break even.

I think your wrong steve, If he paid for the pics he should get the originals.
Personally i dont know why you dont' just copy the files onto the CD your making but hey that would be too simple.
Our photographer sells copies of our photos to family and guests etc to make money. If the client has access to the originals then there is no reason for anyone to buy the photographers prints. Unless you have made an agreement with the photographer before hand or pay for the rights to the original files then IMO you have no right to the originals...

Steve
(Don't get me wrong, I am not getting on my high horse about this thread, just pointing out common practice.)

I would agree that the photographer will hope to make money from selling prints. It is not my intention to prevent that.
I want to make a photo CD that will play on a standard DVD player to send to everyone.
I think I'm just going to go with the screen captures. They're good enough quality for a photo CD.
Can you not just copy the .exe file from the CD and send to everyone? (Or is that copy protected too?)
If you asked for more demo CD's I don't think the photographer would mind, or charge you much.
Cheers,
Steve

Not everyone who is getting a CD has a PC to play it on, plus I want all the photos I can get on one CD, so a photo CD that plays in a DVD player is the best compromise.

PSP has a good screen cap on it as well, but being a popular application that may also be covered by the slideshow executable. Having said that, obviously this ScreenHunter thing isn't covered. Probably next on the list of things to be defeated by copyright owners???
Anyway looks like this one is resolved now.
