    We almost died...

Coming back from a funeral, it seems that the Devil or God still had room for some more before going back down to hell or up to heaven as we got hit by a 80 year old guy who could hardly even walk who was driving on the opposite side of the HIGHWAY !!!

I still don't know where the reflex came from but I swerved to avoid him but he still hit the whole flank of my Mrs.'s VW Passat TDI and it looks like the car isn't going to survive...

We ( my pregnant wife, 3 year old daughter and myself ) are without a scratch but I can't help imagining what would've tragically happened if he had hit us straight on... I might not be writing to you guys ever again...

All's well that ends well but when oh when will old people have to pass their driving test again annually once they reach the ago of say 70 ???

Still, I'm happy to be alive !

Glad your all ok.......and look on the bright side..at least it wasnt your S2

Also....I agree totally with the annual retest for 75 years plus drivers.....

I will never forget seeing an old dear turning right form the entry slip road on a main motorway near Windemere about 6 years ago.....

We were doing 80 on to the Mway past her and coudl only beep and wave because we had already joined the motorway...and it wasnt two way

Never did find out what happened to her (or trhe poor innocent coming the other way)

Just today an elderly driver decided to pull out right in front of me and instead of accelerating away just stopped in the middle of the road, indicated left, and crawled over onto the kerb. I had to literally jump on the brakes to avoid him. He could hardly see over the steering wheel and looked at least 80. I couldnt believe it.

You r right, this is a nonsense that older people can still drive as some of them are completly blind and can't react properly in case of emergency driving !!

hopefully, this ends without anyone to hospital !

His Peugeot 206 was totalled after the collision... The Police arrived very quickly to secure the scene, the other driver was all woozy and confused by what had just happened and he just kept on saying " why was everyone driving in my lane ? "
The Police took him away and I saw them patiently trying to explain to him that he was the one that had caused the accidents ( he didn't hit only me )
and in the end, I think it sunk in and he just remained dazed and hung his head...

I understand that he didn't mean any harm but I can't really sympathize as he could've killed my kids

                        Jeez that is scary!

Im so glad you and your family are ok, that could have been horrific.

Too many times I have seen accidents occur/ nearly occur by 75yo + drivers and have nearly been wiped out a few times myself. The annoying thing is I get so annoyed and get ready to give someone an ear bashing but when I see how old they are I end up feeling sorry for them and cannot go through with it.

                        I agree with re-tests!

You have no idea how much in know how lucky we are to all be sitting here in the living room unharmed in any way... Though I don't know how well I'll be feeling when trying to get some sleep tonight... The "replay" button is gonna get stuck and my imagination is going to show me every other gorish outcome that we were fortunate enough to have missed... It's gonna be a long night.
