WTF - Guidance on how to use a freezer?!

OK, So I'm at work today with the telly on in the background, when i turn around and see an advert with a lady taking some frozen food out of the freezer. So what's the advert for. Fish fingers? Frozen veg? Meat pies?

Nope. It's the environmental agency, telling us how to open a freezer and promptly remove the required product and close it quickly, so it uses less energy and we are thus more environmentally friendly.

Now am I the only one to sit up and think "what the hell are we coming to" or is everyone in this country brain-dead? i feel like matey in "Shaun of the Dead" who just woke up on Z-day. I'm simply amazed at what tax money and airtime is wasted on - do we as a people really need to be told how to use a freezer most efficiently? I'd rather see another 'speed kills' advert and that is saying something.

Somebody please tell me i musta been dreaming, and to even think such a thing would be aired on national tv is nonsensical, and I'll go and check myself in at broadmoor looneybin with a sense of relief that actually, its only me that is going crazy..

    /rant over. For now...

Douglas Adams had forseen it long time ago in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"... The guy that locks himself outside the crazy world because a matchbox contained instrucions for using a match.

But I think the point of this commercial was to enforce preservation of energy not to show usage of freezer. Like when they show when you leave home you turn off the lights.. But there is only a fine line between the two.

No, you're not the only one. A few people here appear to work in some variety of tech support (myself included)... it's a daily thought. Hourly sometimes.

        Ck.

Yes they can be tricky, you can get your fingers stuck between the door and fridge if your not careful. They should bring out a dvd manual how to open with safety.

          Or not.

Hah, I guess next they'll have a timer. You'll be taxed for ever unneccesary second the freezer is opened, and they'll release an advert reminding everyone to take the frozen peas out at the same time as the meat pie soas not to waste even more energy by opening it twice. Nanny-state gone mad, I say. Next we'll be reminded to turn off the gas when we're finished with the hob too. And maybe, the disposable spoon i get with my McFlurry will have an instruction booklet.

Totally on this wavelength, can't believe the crazy products you buy that specifically state "Not for ingestion" Ant powder? Really? What if you ate ants?

The spoon provided to allow you to enjoy McFlurry (tm) Ice Cream is not edible and despite being provided in the same package as the McFlurry (tm) Ice Cream should not be ingested.

Amazing that no-one has sued the ice cream companies for something after getting splinters from a wooden ice cream stick in their tongue.

Wasn't there something about instructions on a packet of peanuts offered on one (or more) airlines?

                    1. Open packet.

                    2. Eat nuts...

Yeah... and the warning on the same packet:

                      May contain nuts

My old fave instruction, or I suppose it's a serving suggestion really, but on Sun Maid raisins, it use to say "try tossing over your breakfast in the morning..."

Drives me crazy too, i vote we take all the warning labels off everything and let Darwinism do its stuff. Survival of the fittest and all that, weed out the idiots in society :mischeif:

2nd i vote for Jeremy Clarkson’s rule that all drivers should have to take an IQ test before receiving a driving licence, if your too stupid for the road get used to the bus

Reminds me of a fast food place somewhere I used to live, which regularly ran a promotion with the err... inspiring advert:

Spend over £10 and we'll toss in the salad for free
