It's been having the top end rebuilt, again, because the cylinder head they rebuilt had a crack in it.
It's being repaired under warranty, but I had to source (and pay for) another head, which took about a week. I also had to pay for an independent report to confirm the damage to ensure that they'd take the car back and fix it. They said they'd look at it without a report but they never found the fault last time, so didn't expect them to find it a second time.
The original reason for the rebuild was a spark plug getting blown out of the head and into a coil pack. This was last November. Since the rebuild I had been getting a lot of white smoke and water loss.
Before the rebuild, I had no water loss and no smoke symptoms.
They took the car back shortly after the initial build (suspecting a faulty head gasket) but found no faults, other than a slight leak in a radiator, which they fixed, and billed me for.
They did confirm, after the report I got in June, that the head wasn't pressure tested before they fitted it after the initial rebuild, citing the fact that it wasn't an overheating/head gasket related problem, so didn't justify a check.
Apparently whoever did the rebuild work for them said "that it could fail at any time and it could not have been caused by what he had done", and put it down to general wear and tear.
It would indeed be difficult to prove that the work done could have caused a crack, but it's just odd that the symptoms only appeared after the initial rebuild. Maybe the work only exacerbated a problem which may have already been there, who knows. If only the head had been pressure tested in the first place, I wouldn't be where I am now with no S2 on my drive, and they wouldn't have to be doing the work all over again.
I'm not really blaming anyone, just seems a comedy of errors.
not being funny but it only took me 3months to do a full top end rebuild including repairing a cracked head, change gearbox for a 6speed etc, and i was doing it at weekends on a 17p and a packet of peanuts budget!!!
if its failed and being repaired under warranty doesnt that suggest an acceptance of liability. If thats the case I would expect them to be completing the work faster than that, or at least you could push them to get it sorted sooner, after all its not your problem? Is the AX your own car or one provided to you while they complete the work?
Hey Karlos,
I'd settle for 2 months any time!
My car has been off the road now since before Xmas last year.
Just not havoing any luck whatsoever. First with the respray - being done by a one -man- band friend. His son needed hospital treatment which was one delay. Then, through no fault of his own he had to move premises (with my car only half done). HAd to sort new garage out before any work could commence. Needed some parts which took forever to appear. That's the shell.
No better luckwith the engine either. Although it is built now, it has been lying at dyno on a pallet for 5 weeks now awaiting its turn. **** knows what's going on there, but ****** all I can do about it. Once it does get dynoed, shell needs transporting from Chertsey to Dover, so engine can be re-fitted and then Intercooler made to fit.
2 months eh? Comedy of errors? God knows when I will get her back?
Count yourself lucky, but I do know how you feel mate! But sure hope you sort things soon.
Cheers
Chris

For what a clutch? I just use a button on the wheel if you want to blip the clutch to break traction. Weird thing is i can only drive on the computer using left foot braking, cant do it with my right foot, but in a real car i can use either
Sorry getting off topic here
