RS4 um.. not that quick.. suprize!

I went to test drive a new RS4 today as a second car to my S2, to my suprize it wasnt as quick, same weight (ish) and suposed to be same bhp, 400 (ish) but my 92 S2 was quicker everywhere.... RS4 handled loads better but ESP was a pain and stayed functioning but at less a rate when switched off brakes where cool.

Think I will still buy but does anyone out there know where I can get it tuned and what to expect in bhp after??

    Jay

P.S the old trusty S2 will become a track tool

my bro has a rs6. which is slightly faster (by 0.1 second or something).

when I test drove that, I thought the same as you.

But then when I played with the sport functions, gear functions, and looked at my speedo rather than how "fast it felt" then i came to the conclusion that I must of been tripping thinking s2 was faster.

Either that or the one you test drove has something wrong with it. Check the 0-60 specs. You have a standard s2?

I supose the RS6/4's are just much smoother than the S2. I have to keep telling people who don't believe the 5.7 0-60 time to LOOK at the SPEEDO! The S2 is a smooth car, but probably quite raw compared to the RS6/4.

It all depends on what you want the car for? I'd personally go for a new M5 over the RS6/4 as I just love the fact that its a proper racing-derived V10!

As may people do not know, the RS4 has limited power when new. The ECM will not allow the engine to run fully until after a few thousand miles. If it has 3500+ miles on it, it should be good, but brand new, they are limited from full power.

          still wasnt as quick!

This one was a demo with nearly 5000 miles and I did keep a good eye on the speedo, she just wasnt as quick, not by much but never the less noticable slower, even my mate commented from the passenger seat but fair play to the sales rep she sat in the back with a big smile and commented on enjoying the ride!!

My S2 is not standard but not to the extreme as some on here, its RS2 spec and a bit, about 400ish BHP it must be the torque that makes my car pull stronger for longer.

Even so I'm going to buy it, just need it tuning... another 100 bhp should do the trick Ive spec'd sports suspension and ceramic brakes as well... Nurnburg here I come

O and i did consider the M5, yes faster but didnt handle as well and its horrible inside B crapy M.... blaaa

The B7 RS4's speed is rather dissapointing, and compared to an RS6 it feels like a slug. Don't expect more than 20-30bhp with tuning; I would stick with a B5 RS4 and tune that to ******y.

im not sure the M5 is in the same league as the RS4, i would have put the RS6 up against the M5 purely on size and luxury.
RS4 is more intouch with the M3, but we all know it whoops that!

My B5 RS4 was 450BHP and it felt smooth and bloody fast, nothing ever beat me around the twisty stuff.

I do miss it so much, i saw a negaro one today, should it of been for sale i think i would of had some explaining to do to the wife (again)

Jay - if you hold in the ESP button on a RS4 for 5 seconds it properly switches off! Just pressing it just switches it off partially.

My S2 has 390 bhp and only weighs 1350 kg i.e. 289 hp/ton but then that is pretty far from stock My RS6 is chipped to 520 hp but weighs 1860kg - 279 hp/ton. The S2 out accelerates the RS6 but top end the extra 130 horses and better aerodynamics come into play and the RS6 is faster again. The biggest problem with the RS6 is its weight - lugging nearly 2 tons around will never be as much fun as the much lighter S2. Oh - I agree - you have to look at the RS6's speedo to figure out how fast you are going - in the S2 you feel speed much better.

Our RS4 only has 1700km on the clock so it is not being pushed hard yet. In addition we live at 5000 ft above sea level where a normally aspirated car loses 17% in power vs a turbo car only losing 5%. But I love the RS4 - the way it handles for a standard car is awesome! I need to get one of those centre diffs for the S2 :mischeif:

                      she wouldnt be smiling

I dont think the sales lady would be smiling if I had tried the 'hold esp button in' trick, did think about it as the B crappy M's are the same.

I agree about the handling, awsome... just need more power!!!

Jay I don't think a NA car ever gives you that feeling of power when the turbo gets going. I love the kick of a turbo but I must say you have much better throttle response with a NA car.

                            not as much

I thought the throttle response would have made so much more difference but to get at the power you need to rev it hard and if you do the same to the S2 she respondes the instantaniously so no real world difference even low rev off boast response eg in top gives the same sort of acceloration!

There is one good point (bit lick a turbo) rev it hard and as you pass 5500rpm she takes off, a big step in power!!

I take it no one tunes them yet then?? thinking exhaust, chip induction kit for now.
