I'm thinking turbos too at the mo and its hard to chose between the 2871 and 3071.

There's enough info on the 034 site to give you a feel, I'm drawn toward the 3071 which it seems will boost up at about the same rpms as the RS2 turbo but be good for 500 odd hp whereas the 2871 is really fast spooling but good for around 425, I think
What I need to know is whether the K26/GT3071 will fit on the RS2 EM and work with the RS2 airbox as I'd really like to keep these and still give 450bhp..

    034 turbo page
Newsh, Iam contemplating the same thing. How to keep the airbox, stock internals and a hefty 400hp with future upgrade potential. I am thinking a reverse IM like MTM/034/...etc would do the trick on the GT3071 and rs2 manny or replica.

Not an expert but maybe someone could confirm this?
    Cheers mis amigos,

i want to stay around 400 HP, not higher. the question is how many Nm will i have using RS2 turbo and optionally 2871? if it is necessary to dig in the engine than i will do it, but if not with this sort of power that i will be hapy not touching it except head gasket of course. so how it is?

You can go for 400bhp on stock rods, but you won't be able to push the same torque levels. So you'll be missing out on the mid-range 'punch' that we all love from the I5 (that's to say, it will only be a little bit harder than stock/remap rather than a whole new level!)

I'm only really being theoretical here, but i see it like a bit of 'under the graph area' (remember Calculus? ) - there's more "work done" on a 3-7k 100% throttle blast with the low-down torque, even though by 6k rpm and peak power the HP levels could be the same... does this make sense?

        cheers

Injectors, try Jamo; there are other "like" alternates out there too. They do come up from time to time in the £150-£200 bracket.

EM, they are like gold dust - I waited 6 months to get one! There is now an 034 equivalent and I think they are a little more common on ebay.de

IC - See above I do know BRY has one for sale, because it had my name on it :mischeif: However... I've gotten my hands on a damaged one that works to tide me by until I have some more $$$ to get a "proper" one. However, I know he'd rather sell it sooner than later so please feel free to enquire about it! My loss could be your gain...

Airbox - good question, personally I'm using a cone filter ATM.

Turbo - again, rare, but they come up from time to time. I'd seriously look at some of the alternates that are now about for similar money.

Water Samco's.. not sure if there's gonna be another group buy, I think Paul is your man?

          Cheers,

3071 is only good for 500 hp with the engine maxed out: Fully worked with all the tricks in the book.
i'd say 400hp is a realistic figure for stockish motor.

2871 should be good for 350 hp.

Regarding the use of those 2871 and 3071 turbos. Yesterday i did some calculations, and at the point where i currently have max torque (about 3950rpm according to my dyno charts) i'd be really close to the surge line.
Do you guys know if anyone ever had problems with surge at mid-range rpm on these?

(I run a chip, cone filter and 20psi of bost. 270hp on an AAN engine)

edit:i forgot to mention i used the formulas at turbobygarrett.com for the calculations

Yes, surging is a comon problem with these Garrett turbos, but if you use the original motronic, you can limit boost pressure a little bit when the turbo spools. I guess the 2871 has a bigger surge problem on our engines. There has also been reports of cam retiming that has solved the surge problems.

The 2871 is the one that suffers from surging issues low down - do a search on it.

A few things to consider, is that the 3071 will fit the RS2 EM no problems but the downpipe will be about 5mm further back. May need some adjustment for it's adjoining to the wastegate if you're not running the flex piece. The hotside will possibly foul the chassis too... so be prepared! It will, however, spool like hell at 3300-3500rpm and above

                    Using what turbine? GT3071R- 700382-3 or the GT3071R - 700382-20?
