On the GTi drag strip, I was doing 6.0 and 6.1 to 60MPH and a shade over 14secs for the full 1/4 mile in a stock ABY, whilst Brian was doing 5.5 to 60MPH and around 13.3secs for the 14mile in a chipped ABY......I think

I was surprised at how slow the 0-60 times were, based on Audis production figures which are usually conservative, but the 1/4mile times seemed about right.

I was launching at 5,500rpm and getting some really good starts - beating Greg off the line by a good distance ...until he hit 2nd gear and his 300+ horses woke up...then it felt like I was suddenly going backwards

    Need ....... more ...... power

    Cheers n

offcourse if a car leaves the factory it can probably do 5.6 secs as stated.

however, 10 years down the line the performance will decrease. even if you have a rebuild engine, its still other factors that will slow you down (in my opinion), like drivetrain, sensors etc..)

(P.s.) im sure when audi originally did the test they abused the clutch too on take off (and probably did the test at 4am when the air is perfect).

If anything perfomance on VAG engines usuallly increases with age providing everything is running as it should and boost pressure hasnt fallen due to the wastegate spring loosing tension over time.
Frictional losses in the engine/transmission usually drop with age as the engine loosens up.
Did anyone ever see when Clarkson sprinted two Mk2 16v Golfs down a runway - only difference was one had about 80000 miles more than the other - guess what - the high mileage valver absolutely creamed the 'tight' low mileage car.

i believe on 0-60 times manufactures dont use the clutch just change gear at the optimum moment probably loosing at least half a second of your best time and probably fooking the gearbox up too

They do what is known as power shifting - quick stab of the clutch and thats about it!.
The cars only got to get one set of decent times and it doesnt matter what happens to the running gear after that

well isnt that the way your ment to go down the 1/4 mile any way pedal to the metal
an on launch 7000 rpm then let the left foot up. 5.4 to sixty was my time i do belive..because if your going to spend a tenner you might as well get as fast as you can ( slipper wagon time)

Agreed but go to RWYB and youll get as many runs as possible for 15 quid
My Golf ran into the 5's - not bad for a fwd car with no lsd and on rainsports in a gusting 30+ mph headwind ...
Sidestep the clutch - suits you sir!

5.4secs is definitely achieveable on a stage 1 remapped S2 without too much bother or driver skill.
