    Selling the Scooby . . .

Well after 6 weeks of fun ............... its gotta go.

I have to have a normal car for cheaper insurance, flux refused to me insure
the scooby. Managed to get insurance, but only s/d/p (not commuting to work)

Im looking at going back into work,(upped insurance again) but whats made things even more
worse, is i have just got my licence back with points. And had to declare them.

So its either an a4 (biggest engine tho) or a V6 vectra, or 3L Omega

          Mmmmm the lotus one :mischeif:
          like the lotus carlton.

a licence to kill, LOL if only on i could get insured, also afford it

Hopefully passing a psv (think thats what licence a bus is) will help me
by convincing insurance companies that i am a safe driver.

Not my fault a few years back, someone tried to suicide, by jumping infront
of my car whilst it was moving
(next time i will reverse over them)

what about looking at the A4 tdi's or leons. might be cheaper on insurance for a while and reasonable performance

Tina, you sure go through cars quickly! Insurance might be cheap as chips on the vectra, but it's resale-value will be too if you decide to get rid of it in 3 months time (which, being a Vauxhall, you probably will). You could well find the preferencial but seemingly expensive-to-run-in-comparision A4 won't cost more over the life of the car when you factor in depreciation.

PS. The Vaxhaul Astra Cdi (05 model) is the worst car I've ever driven. Even a Rover 25 has more feel.

Tina - if it helps, I'm really really pleased with my A4 V6 quattro. Having to sell the S2 was a painful decision and I really wanted to keep something with a bit of grunt but still have the quattro surefootedness and be practical. I think you'd struggle to go wrong with the A4. I had to decide between the 1.8T (which I would have chipped, obviously) and the V6 but just 2mins driving the V6 made the decision for me - so smooth. If you're after economy but still with a bit of poke, try and find a 2.5TDi.

I would strongly urge you to avoid the Omega - as posted above I have also experienced one of these and they're just hideous. It's like driving a boat. Through treacle. With rubber controls. Wearing a spacesuit. Awful.

Likewise please avoid the V6 Vectra at all costs! I also have driven one of these (2004 era) and whilst it wasn't quite so oil-tanker like as the Omega, it had about as much driving-reward as being drowned. Awful. Going round bends was taking your life in to your own hands, and the gearbox was so vague you could easily mistake reverse for 3rd.

Of course this is a biased point of view, this is an Audi forum and we all prefer to spend our money on the four rings marque, but seriously, don't get a Vauxhall!

ive got an A4 quattro 2.8 30v £2500 - pretty quick and mint to drive, just make sure you get a lower mileage one, 160k on LPG kinda fookes em! (not that wab style driving had anything to do with it dying)

Um ...I am sure all the policies I've ever had for S/D/P state that it includes "travel to and from your normal place of work"?

Unless you actually use the car for business I believe the S/D/P usually covers it - but check the small print as it's clearly case-by-case.

Your thinking of S/D/P and Commuting (to permenant place of work) KOTK

You can get S/D/P with out the commuting as it's cheaper but you not insured to drive to and from work (rush hour basically).

On that point though, I added full work use to my car insurance on the S2 (inculding commuting) and it only increased the premiuim by a few quid. That was Oiliphant again. I'm starting to sound like an elephant sales man this is bad

what about an S3...change out of £9k with all the goodies, Bose, xenons, recaros etc Iknow it's not an S2 but easy to buy performance with one or if the insurance will kill u on one of those, just get a heap to drive for a year, stay claim free then look again. If the worst happens and you have a few dings a) you wont give a stuff and b) it'll be cheap to sort out. You must have spent/lost a fortune buying and selling over the last 6 months...
