Yes, it was a good mag, no doubt about that - well, at least until the "Apology Issue 4" arrived, which I had to retrieve from my pile of junk mail...and then it promptly went in the bin with the rest of the junk...!
    Past: S2 ABY coupe RS2 spec with lots of mods, S4 B5 saloon, RS6 C5 saloon, S8 D2 FL, RS4 B7 saloon, S4 B6 avant

    Present: S4 B8 avant, MRC Stage 2

I think in some respects David should be congratulated for at least trying to do something that many of us wouldn't but, the lack of common courtesy and sob stories is not very professional IMO.
Maybe one of his downfalls is that he is affiliated with a certain scammer who ripped off many quattro forum guys?
I know for a fact that this scammer is widely known in the Audi world for being a con and word gets around.
I'm in no way saying David is a con, I think he has put a lot on the line and made huge sacrifices to try and get this thing rolling, so respect to you for that David.
But choose your friends wisely as you may be judged by your peers unfavourably for being buddies with a con or having this scammer advertise in your mag.
I hope David you learn from this experience (as I have learnt from many in my own business) and make your next attemt a better one.
        Good Luck.

Has Corey got anything to say about it? He seems to be quite close to Mr Corfeild, as has defended him in the past. Is it really a scam? 'Cause it sure looks like one.

I have lots to say but nothing that is worth posting, I have known David for a number of years and know what he has/is going through. If money wasn't his issue then TA would be the best magazine in the world.
Despite his lack of communication and inability to post the occasional magazine I know that he isn't the sort of man to scam anyone, he just lacks certain managerial skills but his enthusiasum for the Audi brand and his belief in his venture is second to none.

I know if it was me and there were posts about me being a possible scam artist then i would be on here defending myself, explaining the situation and offering a public apology for losing peoples money etc. The fact that David hasn't decided to stick his head above the wall and take it like a man doesn't exactly help his cause and i imagine there will be no second venture as i doubt further funds from this community or other forums will be forthcoming?

Sure businesses flop all the time and I'm sorry that this one didn't stutter into life given the level of enthusiasm everybody seems to mention with regard to David but it's obvious that there is more to success than enthusiasm, a sound business mind (or access to one...as offered by Si for example) is always useful as is commom courtesy to those that did dig deep and show them the colour of their money....?

I fear 3rd party comments will be the last we hear on the subject - Corey do you know what state the venture is in? Is it actually dead as it feels like it

Great post David and I entirely agree.

A post once a fortnight or once a month by Davd Corefield on all the Forums that he initially approached with the magazine and KNEW had threads running regarding its progress would not have been particularly time consuming and would have done wonders for his PR, which lets face it has been none existent!

To be honest I can swallow the thirty odd quid that I have lost, the money is not important to me, what is frustrating, is the lack of communication or apology and the FEELING that we HAVE been SCAMMED even if that (and I do suspect) is NOT the case.

I wish David well with his next business venture, but you can be sure no one who has paid for a TA subscription or has read any of the threads will go anywhere near him again, and that is a shame for David.

                Cheers,

                Steve.

I know as much as you guys. David goes very quiet a lot of the time and doesn't respond to phone or email.

There was a recent post regarding the latest quiet spell on here page 15, last post

As I have said before I was one of the first to offer my support and put my money on the table and it would be a pity to see it come to an end like this.
Business is always difficult and money and cash flow are vital to any venture big or small but communication (whether good or bad) helps alot.

Thanks for bearing with me and thanks to the emails of support some of you have been kind enough to give me.
Just after New Year I spoke to Richard (quattrokid) and let him into some good news that I’d just received from a publisher. I’d shaken hands on a deal which would effectively see them take over TA, relaunch it, put some money into it and get it into newsagents. They even agreed to take on the admin, help Tom with the advertising and leave me to do what I do best: create magazines. We shook hands, exchanged emails and all seemed fine and dandy.
Then two days after the meeting I received an email from them stating that they had had second thoughts and were very sorry but they couldn’t take it on. My Audi world collapsed at that point. After craving your indulgence to breaking point I knew that further bad news would effectively see me ousted from this forum and be branded a cheat and a conman. In fact looking at some of the postings it seems I already am regarded that way. Thanks.
So I withdrew, I got bitter, I fell ill (again) and I tried to find a way forward. And then another publishing project with even bigger demands came along that paid me some money to live off for a bit, so I got involved with that for a few weeks while I tried to work out what to do.
I realise I should have been updating you with all of this on a regular basis but to be honest the reception was getting icier all the time that I was online with nothing to say so I didn’t want to come back until I had some good news to report.
So for the time being TA has been put on hold while we enter into fresh talks with a new publishing company. I’m having a meeting tomorrow and the process starts again. We’ve put a stop on new subscriptions and Tom has in earlier posts urged you to contact him for missing issues (Tom, by the way, is a bloody saint and does all this of his own goodwill because he shares the faith I have in this magazine).
My admin is my Achilles heel and for that I sincerely apologise. Life as a one-man publishing operation is not easy and I think you can all see that. I have zero cashflow, live pretty much hand to mouth and have nothing but respect for the more successful small publishing operations out there that manage to survive. That said, I am very proud of the four issues that myself and the team have managed to produce and I hope you will all agree it fills a gap and offers something that existing titles cannot. Currently we can’t muster enough advertising revenue to move forward and the cost of print and paper has gone up yet again to effectively price ourselves out of operation because we don’t have the clout to drive a better deal. We WILL be back, though, and I can’t stress that enough, and in the meantime if you want to call me then please do. I have been temporarily cut off from T-Mobile because I haven’t got enough funds to pay the bill until Friday so until that time here’s another number: 07778 523090. I look forward to hearing from you. I’m off to bed now – goodnight to all those who are still awake and still reading this.

Fair enough, and I do feel a little sorry for him, but its too late for all that. If he had asked for help (not money but in other ways) earlier and communicated better it might not have ended like this.

Good luck to him in the future and at least he was man enough to face the music...

Hmm, i think i missed that one......fair comment and fair post on his part - i'm sure thats no way to try and function but as mentioned he missed a massive opportunity in taking that low hanging fruit back at the start and pretty much most of the way through.

                            Gentlemen,

I have an idea for a new business venture and I would like to ask for your support and even financial backing. This venture comes at a time when I am working flat out with my day job, so it will only be a hobby for now…but from little badly managed acorns….

So, the plan is to open an Indian restaurant, slap bang in the middle of the curry centre of Birmingham. I have found a little street with only about 25 other restaurants and there is a vacant shop, where another restaurant was….seems it went bust for some strange reason

I know what you are thinking….I am not actually a trained Indian chef, but hey, I like curries and I eat them regularly, so in that sense, I reckon I am a bit of an expert!

Now, I reckon that I have found a niche in this market; after all, there are never enough restaurants around when you want one eh? So don’t worry about the competition

In terms of menu, I will of course advertise it as a curry centre, but here’s the good bit. I will then contact the various social and ethnic community centres and advertise the restaurant to them as being just what they want I will tell the Jewish community that I serve cosha meat (they’ll never know it is not), I’ll tell the Muslims there is not alcohol served on site, but of course I’ll tell the Irish that I am shipping in the Guinness made in Dublin The Scottish community will be promised haggis, oats and all the whisky they can drink and the Chinese will be promised authentic prawn crackers and the promise that I will use as many waiters as they can supply. The French will be promised nouveau cuisine, the Italians will be getting a pizza and pasta sensation whilst the Germans will be expecting meat in broth….Dunno what to offer the Americans yet, but the outdoor barbeque should impress the Aussies. I am happy to admit to you guys that I will of course only be offering curry, chips and omelette, as that is what the mass market will want

Now, the cunning bit is as follows – I am only going to accept bookings in advance and will make people pay up front, that way I will collect enough cash for the refit of the premises. I also plan to offer the ability to make multiple bookings in advance, for a very slight reduction in cost, in order to attract more up front investment.

Once a booking is made, I will then email them some weeks later, with a suggested date for their meal, although I suspect that for the first year or so I will usually have to cancel this date at least once (qu: should I bother telling them?).

Now, the tricky logistical problem, is what happens when a group of friends book, as I may only be able to send dates to some of them. Therefore, when the others find out and email me, I will have to give a sob story and then send them a date the following week. The way around this is to use a friend as a contact, so that they have to talk to different people (Clever eh?)

So what do you all think? Can I convince any of you to take out a yearly subscription? I’ll throw in 3 free meals if you sign up before the restaurant opens

Your thoughts and helpful suggested are eagerly awaited. BTW, anyone who lives near Birmingham and knows how to fry chips, please give me a shout.

                            Cheers n
