    Petition against additional road taxation

The government's latest proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.

A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.

One of the reasons this proposal has been suggested was to raise money for possible road building and improvements to existing roads. It should be noted: all the money currently collected by the DVLA for road fund licences, only 23% - 24% is actually spent on road building and improvements!

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect an NIP with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website

Remember that thread about the motorised bollards in the road and me saying it was the thin end of an ever-thickening wedge?

This was exactly the sort of thing I was talking about! Bear in mind that this device will know where you are and not just the time of day, but because it knows time and position, can work out speed. Is this getting through to people?!!

You won't be able to have a crafty high-speed blast along a deserted road, every time you break the limit, it will be logged!!!

This country already has more surveillance cameras per person than anywhere else, and here is another one of this darling government's intrusions into our lives. How much longer will it take for people to see through them for the bunch of theiving shysters that they are???

Sorry but i take all this crap with a big pinch of salt.
How the hell did a school run mother mount up more than someone running their own business delivering stuff???......
As for tracking you - they can do that now anyway - nearly everyone has a mobile phone,ATM card etc.
        Dont believe everything you hear......
Im all for taxation per mile if it comes with no fuel and annual road tax.

Fuel tax ALREADY IS taxation per mile AND taxation on the size/efficiency of your engine and therefore a virtual emmisions tax.

Remember that based on the cost of petrol, we pay 614% tax in the UK . I spent last week in Dubai, where petrol is 9p/litre. When I told them that it was ten times that in the UK they would not believe me.

          Cheers n tears

Blown VR, if that's what they do, I'd be most surprised. The track record ain't great. As for the tracking devices, mobiles maybe, but I don't think that's instantaneous (this system would be faster for sure). I stand to be corrected, but this isn't scaremongering, this is genuinely what the government has been told is the way forward and they are now working out how to implement it.

From what I've read a few times, 2/3 of all the surveillance camera in the "WORLD" are in the UK

              Si ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? bad man ..

So! You'd have to pay £200 for this? Where would it be fitted? and by who?
I can see many being removed a left at home :mischeif:

On a lighter note, I read the other day the government plans the for UK to drop in line with the rest of the EU in only MOT'ing your car once every "two" years.
But I bet they make in twice as hard to pass it though.

                Si

Indeed, but at the moment everyone gets taxed a ridiculous amount based on the amount of fuel they buy regardless of using the car a little or a lot as your calculations show paying 600 odd % tax on a tank of fuel.
Id rather pay 10 quid a tank and get taxed on my relatively small annual mileage and im sure this would be better for the majority of users who dont do excessive mileages.
Have to wait to see if the government ever implements a system like this - id have to see it to beleive it!!

                Pete.

Not good for someone like me who has to travel a good distance to work. But I understand where you are coming from.

                  So;
I get taxed driving to my job, earn your wage, pay the tax, save your wage, pay the tax, spend your wage, pay the tax.

And add to this the fact that where I live I will now see my parking permit charges rise by 200% to £300 a year because of Richmond council's absurd plan to base your parking charges on your car's "emmisions band" (Surely if a car is parked it is not emitting any pollution at all so they should be encouring me to park it more?!), and the "congestion charge" going up to £28 for the top band cars - it's absoloutely insane.

I am actually seriously tempted to go out and buy a Lexus Hybrid just for the sheer absurdity of it all that because it's got a hair-dryer motor in there it is considered "environmentally friendly" even with it's 4 litre V8.

Petrol duty is at least "pay as you go" and "polluter pays".

F*cking government. I'm sick of it.

Personally I think this is a bad idea judging by the state of some of the cars on the road and the EU should come into line with the UK and have a test every year of similar standard, would certainly help cut emissions without having so many knackered cars on the road
