      A quick update...

This is approximately what I started with bar destroying a few sheds, moving the fence at the bottom further down the garden...

After we had cleared the rubbish...

My first weekends efforts on the footings...

The start of my second weeks effort on the footings...

It was too dark this evening to take pictures of the result of some back breaking work. More to come next week....

You can hire a mini digger that would finish off your groundwork excavations, over a wekend.
My mate did his extension with one and we had a right laugh.

Bry - I looked at getting a mini-digger but decided against it because I could use the money to buy other stuff. It's slower by hand but in the end I will be able to stand back and know that I dug it.

I will keep chucking up photos for all those who have any interest but if people have learnt lessons I would like to hear them to stop me making the smae mistakes.

Why dig it out by hand when you can hire a mini digger for £200~
Hire a skip and dispose of the soil in that with the mini digger - £50 removed.
              Jobs a good un.
You need to work it out on if your time digging by hand is worth less or more than the cost of hiring a mini digger.

Ahh but I've almost finished the main work and it has cost me £0. £200 extra for electric doors or a two post lift, or a compressor, or a movable tool chest, or a big vice and a work bench...

                  Plus I'm getting fitter.

Bad weather, time out of the country, work on the car are all good reasons for no progress. I ran out of excuses this weekend so found myself back down the garden getting muddy.

It won't be long till it have the footings ready for the concrete. Once that's poured, there's only a quick bit of building and it'll be done. Well almost. For those who are interested I will post some pics next weekend.

Going off to rest my bones, god I'm shattered.

Well the footings are finally complete:

I have just got to do the shuttering and then order some concrete.

It's gonna be a bloody big garage

we have a planning aplication in at the moment. Not much of ours will be dooable by ourselves as it needs a GOOD retaining wall to keep the front garden and therefore the house at bay.

Internal domensions are 6700 mm deep by 5695 mm wide by 3 metres tall.

The plan is to be able to get a car in and our bikes with room to work on them.

                          Wish us luck.

                            Good luck.

If you have the time an inclination you can do anything yourself. I have never done any building myself but don't think I will have any troubles.

It does sound like a good sized garage. Mine will end up being 8.1m by 4.2m.

got to dig 155metres of 18" trench this month to get electricity hooked up... mini digger me thinks!

There is something missing in those footings (other than 20 tons of concrete)...oh yes, a big hole in the middle for a pit. I used to have one at my old place and it was great.

                                Cheers n
