Is my local dealer having a laugh ?

Just got quoted £970 for the 80k and timing belt service on the Allroad

Breakdown is £600 just for the timing belt work... Which is an alleged 5-6 hours

    Blooming ridiculous !

I'll be shopping around for this work... Can't be arsed doing it myself as theres umpteen special tools required.

Is this a normal quote or is someone having a laugh - I don't normally deal with the stealers so I have no history with them.

I asked how much extra to change the thermostat at same time which totally phased them as I said I knew it was best to do that during the timing belt change.

    This could ruin christmas !!!!!!

    Cheers,

    Paul

The thing is most people will pay it as most Audi's a fleet cars and not privately owned.
I got quoted £85 and hour for them to change the fuel pump on my coupe, and they had to quote 3 hours as it wasn't something they did often so didn't know how long it would take to do!
In the end my mate did it for £20, and it took him about 40 minutes!

I phoned my local dealer to price up the replacement of my fuel lines the other week.

They said they wanted over £100 just to look what the job entailed and they also said it could possibly take 8 hrs+ at £120 per hour!
I said 'Er, no thanks!' or words to that effect. Absolute piss-take!

And the 'local specialist' has failed to phone me back for a price for the same job, despite me phoning them several times.....

I can't really get the car high enough to do them myself, and don't really relish the idea in this weather anyway.

Corey has the right idea here maybe!

Welcome to real Audi ownership Paul.
I'm sure you could do the oil change yourself, and save yourself ~£150.
I'm not sure about the cambelt change, you gotta love those V6s.

Dont know if this helps but i helped a friend with a Timing belt change on a 2.8 V6 a few years ago and didnt have to use any of the special tools needed just a little bit of common sense and an 8ft piece of scaffold pole sorted it out in about 4 hours with two of us.
Not too sure what sort of configuration the V6 allroad engine has but must be similar
