Urgent - alarm keeps going off!!

I've had to disconnect the battery just so that I can lock the car as the stupid alarm is activated on the key.

It's a standard audi alarm. I've disconnected the alarm and boot light switches within the tailgate, and taped up all the connections in the tailgate loom, so it's not a short or anything like that. I've checked the fuse box for water and there's nothing there. I've even pulled fuse 19 (central locking/alarm etc.) but it's made ****** all difference.

Please, someone help! It's driving me insane.

I don't know about the standard Audi alarm on the S2, but on A3s it is common for the battery in the siren to fail, causing the alarm to go off whenever you leave it. If that's any help.

Ive had exactly what Stu describes on my last two cars (non oem alarms)
dead backup battery = very upset alarm........

Plus, the alarm should continue to sound when the main battery is removed....unless..the backup battery has died!!!! (or there isnt one )
