Just cancelled my car insurance today, been with the company about 6 months.Rang them up expecting to just tell tham i was ending it and i would send them the certificate back, which i have done before with other companys. They then tell me i owe then a 90 quid cancellation fee!!.Never had that before and i am well p!ssed off.
Anyone else ever come across this?
If you have already paid your full premium tell them to shove it!
cheers,
Steve.

If they don't back down then ask them to justify the cost. Banks have had to refund £1000s to people in unfair charges so maybe Insurance companies should get the same treatment.

In that case I think you will be liable for some payment even if it isn't the whole outstanding policy amount....

I think they've got you there. A friend of mine had a car accident recently and she was paying by installments. They subtracted the remaining premium due for the rest of the year from her write-off settlement. I told her to fight that but she got nowhere.

Yeah i've heard of that before but not the crap they are telling me.Its well out of order.
interesting to hear that insurance is a scam the world over
i learned a week ago that if i were to turbo my corrado vr6, the company i have been with for the 13 years that i have been driving would drop my policy. not only have i been with them for 13 years, i have 2 cars and my house with them! yet any mullet sporting chain smoking grade 5 educated redneck with a hunk of 600hp (my rado is only gonna be stage one, 250hp) deeeetroit iron can get insurance any day of the week as they are more "mature" than i and would not go street racing.
i find that kinda strange as the odd time i hang out with a few friends in the summer, it's always the mullet machines that go racing and us "kids" that stick around, have a coffee and shoot the breeze.
