Will An Rs2 Live Up To Expectations

As I stated in a previous post I intend to buy a rhd rs2 later this year, when I have sorted out the problems with the s2, but after reading the 10k herros artical in this mounths EVO mag ,and a few coments on some BMW forum about RS2 v m3 and m5 ,I have to say the audi dos'nt fair to well, now don't get me wrong I am no BMW fan,I am AUDI to the core ,but with comments like the altimate tow car, bland, and unexsiting, you have to start wondering if the RS2 iconic stateous, especialy on this forum Is clouding our judgement, I certenly hope not.
So prehaps a few of you that have been fortunate enough to drive or even own one of these cars can persuade me that if I buy one I won;t be dissapointed.
    Many thanks LOU

When the car is running as it should it will put the biggest smile on your face, getting it running correctly could (if you buy a dog) cost you £££.
Audi's never have faired well in magazine tests as they people doing the testing are usually biased or they don't know how to get the best from the cars or their driving style doesn't adapt to whats required.
I don't know of anyone that can just into a car and get the best from it straight away it takes a little bit of time to get into the groove.
It is the perfect car both practical and has performance and exclusivity plus if you wish you can uprate it further

Being an Audi man to the core myself,i had never driven the RS2 i just had an idea of what it was.Up to the point of buying it last year,i had only driven audis with 100hp and 1600cc so i would say that from point 1 i was amazed with the car's abilities even though when i bought it,it wasnt at its top position. After spending quite a lot(meaning around 12-14K euros in all,i have managed to actually have a car that i enjoy, that puts a smile on my face and also have managed to get it in a trouble free spec,as i have changed all those parts that usually are too expensive to change and always think...'nah it must be something else that eliminates the perfect boost i should have!

My car has 2 small cracks on the cylinder head and i bought a second one, crack free just in case.I believe that i have covered all aspects that make this car run beautifully and have acquired most parts that may become extinct in the years to come.

if you are thinking of getting the RS2 just for a couple of years, then you dont have to go into all this trouble, however with this in mind, you may not want to spend all this amount servicing it either so if you dont find one in top condition, you may not find out it's true power ever.On the other hand, you must be willing to dig deep in your pockets to make this car run perfectly, but once you do,then you will always have a smile in your face.

If i had the money to do everything again,i bet i would and maybe try to find a RS2 that would be less costly to buy, since i would end up rebuildng everyaspect anyway.

Corey’s statement sounds about right!! I also have read the EVO article and some other articles about the S2 and RS2, I always find myself arguing and questioning the writers or the testers, for some reason they are negative about the Audi before they even get into it. As Corey says I also think they don’t really know how to drive the old skool Audis to get the best out of them.
But I suppose at the end of the day it’s all a personal preference and the only way to comment is to drive one!

Each to their own and don't believe what you read!! We'd all be well and truly shafted if we did!!
I've driven BMW's, Audi's, Porsches, Maserati's, Saabs, Volvo's, Chryslers, Mercs (inc V8 and V12 AMG's), Jags etc etc. I run a transport company so get to have a play in a lot of cars. New cars bore the 5h1t out of me to be honest. The RS2 though, will put a smile on my face everytime without fail.
Everybody's tastes are different, some blokes like skinny chicks and some bloke prefer fat birds, and I can guarantee you that the ride with both is very different! (allegedly!!)

I can't see the point of how magazines constantly compare the RS2 to the M3 or any other car for that matter. Why don't they just review the car on it's own as it will always have it's merits and pitfalls. I've given up buying car magazines a long time ago as I got fed up of seeing things from one persons perspective. If I want to review a car, I'll either speak to someone who owns one or have a go in one myself!

So yes, the RS2 is an extremely rewarding car. I see you are particularly after a RHD example, but I'll be honest, don't let a left hooker put you off. A few bob cheaper amd it's a doddle driving a left hooker. 4 of my cars are left hookers and to me being right handed, shifting with my right hand comes far more natural!
There seems to be a lull in the market at the moment for 2nd hand RS2's. I'd make the most of it now and fork out £10000-£12000 on the best money can buy!

Mines a left hooker, and for me that just adds to the ownership of the car. RS2 in RS blue, left hand drive. That alone will keep me happy for the next ten years.
She's only done 90,000 km, just nicely run in.
Yes she's costing me money, and will continue to do so, but when you find a passion you tend to fuel it. Prefrably with V.Power

Stunning when sorted. No offence to the EVO RS2 owner but the comments clearly indicate that the suspension was not sorted. I have a worn front ball joint at the moment and you can tell.
New dampers, bushes, balljoints and a proper 4 wheel alignment are a must to get the car to handle.
If you believe oversteer equals handling buy a BMW although the RS2 will do lift off oversteer when sorted. So you can have it all with the RS2.
If you read the original roadtests some of the negative comments relate to the high tyre pressure and 245 tyres on a 7" rim Audi specified. Use 38psi and 225 rubber and the feel they always say is lacking returns.

                  What car doesn't!?!?!

But let's put it this way, in 5 years time, if maintained, there's no reason why you shouldn't get all your money back making it a damn site cheaper to run than a Zetec Ford Fiesta!!

I'd rather spend money on Ultimate/Optimax and have a few more smiles per mile than to have a car where every penny saved at the pump is offset by the awful residual resale value of 99.8% of modern cars.

There's something 'hardcore' about having that RS2 badge on the back. I always use one word to explain the RS2 to someone...

As stated, I think you have to get out and drive one yourself. Be prepared to spend a bit more to get a car that's been kept immaculate or shell out to get a more tired example sorted...

I remember my first S2 drive, it was great (I'd been driving a BMW 3-series for a while before) and my only 'critisism' in comparison was that the steering feel felt a bit dead, understeered when pushing it and the drivetrain felt a bit slack. Never got round to sorting the slack (that was in the rear diff) but some money spent on the suspension really sorted it. My brother's always been a BMW driver, but when I crashed the S2 he was more gutted than me I think - 'coz he loved it for it's character, unique drive, the 5-cyl sound and the resulting 'big grin' he had everytime I let him drive it.
