    Help needed please!!!

Hey guys. I i have a cracked aby head and am need of a replecement one. Has anyone got one for sale? Would also be interested in a complete engine if there is one going at the right price. I really did buy a pup with this one and so wish i had hung on to my trusty 3b. Live and learn i guess.

The story behind all of this is i brought my aby back in June 2006 for top s2 money £8000 bearing in mind it is a 1996 aby with RS2 spec interior like Dougs with 95000 miles on the clock with full audi history to find on the drive home that 2nd gear syncro was shot doh!!! This was a pain but i sourced an S4 box off of the forum from S2ant i think which i still have but have not got round to fitting it yet. Also soon after buying the car i noticed that it tended to run quite hot which was strange so i changed the water pump thermostat and fan switch which i thought would cure the problem. Then came the Audi track day at Castle combe last year. Went on the track and after a lap steam started poring out from under the bonnet. Came off of the track and everyone came to help which was great thanks guys especially Sal!!! The conclusion was that the head had warped and pressurised the coolent system which in turn boiled the coolent hence the steam. Doh!!!!!

Got home took engine appart had the head skimmed brought all the neccesarry parts and had it all put back together which has taken from september to present. Started it up today to find out that it is still pressurising the system which tells me that the head is cracked somewhere. This in turn explains why i had so much trouble with the car overheating when i first brought it. The dam head was on the way out. Its boiling the top of the engine and blowing all the water out before the water in the bottom of the rad gets hot enough to turn the fan on.

As you can tell from the above this car is costing me an arm and a leg to put it politly.

Will my block be ok? That is why i might be interested in a new engine.

Any been the done thats and any helpfull advice welcomed with open arms.

    Cheers guys Ross

      Ouch..What a total nightmare
Mind if I ask who did the head replacement? was all correct torque specs, torquing sequence, new gaskets and what not used?

Also. did you get the head pressure tested when it was removed?

Sal_s2 might be worth a try for a new cylinder head. but even on a "new" one I would get it pressure tested and skimmed for flatness.
Not worth the hassle to put it back on and find you have another leak

I cant see why your block would necessarily be damaged unless it has hydrolocked or caused damage due to water in the bores...but I could be wrong on this.
It would certainly need a very thorough examination I think after two incidents like this.

heres an ADU head for you. Described as in good condiiton.

When the head came off i put a straight edge from corner to corner and could see straight away that it was warped. Had it skimmed but not pressure tested fool i know i just assumed it was ok big mistake. Tim my mechanic is a friend of the family and has lots of experience with s2's and i have been helping him every step of the way. He has stripped it all down and put it all back again for £300 which i thought was very good.
Cheers for the quick reply my friend.

            Ahh...so its papvas' cylinder head
yeah. Of the several ADU heads I considered buying 2 out of the three had small cracks between 2 exhaust valves. Audi say its ok as long the crack does not extend moer than 1 spark plug thread or 1mm iirc
Easily repaired by these guys anyway (they are top blokes)
