I am not so sure, you need some aero elements for that track IMO....

I think the Steve Scott 600 bhp "WRC" Fiesta could beat the MC12 and Enzo. Now that would give the blokes of Top Gear something to moan about!

Whilst I love most of the cars listed in the 'I bet this would beat the lap record' section of this thread, I think you are missing the point of Top Gear. Apart from the humour and silliness, the motoring part ONLY focuses on current production models.

I have a vague recolection that they did allow a twin engined TT on the track once, but only because it was so radical and was supposed to be a record holder of some sort.

Remember, for every fourrings fan, there are 27 Ford owning Barry boys and 47 Ricer owning Chavs who spend all their dole on Nitrous that would likely trounce not only the lap record, but any Audi as well....sad but true I suspect.

        Cheers n

Absolutely true. But ask any of those Chav Ricer Barry Boys to explain the intricacies of variable vane turbocharging, Torsen differentials or the importance of well matched springs and dampers; then watch their in-bred faces contort blankly.

Back to the accident... Three questions -

            1. How on earth did that thing stay up for so long when it initially swerved off course ? I thought it would have started to roll immediately it started sideways...

            2. How lucky was the hamster that it didn't burst into flames ?

            3. How embarrassed is the supplier of front tyres on that thing ?

The legit version is here somewhere -

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have a go at making petrol.

I thought that shunt would be bigger!!! If you've seen footage of T/F cars going over on dragstrips you'll know what I mean. As for the front tyre, I'd guess it was a Funny Car front tyre which should easily be capable of 330mph (given that they are not overloaded, which I don't think they are seeing as the wheelbase is quite long and all the weight is in the rear). But it exploded and the rest is history! Story goes that Colin Fallowes is blaming Hamster for not pulling the chute (which would have dragged the car into a straight line in theory) ...but that might just be a story and nothing more.

I thought that pulling the 'chute would have been helpful, but in the 0.4s of 'reaction time' I imagine his instince was to try and correct, how the hell could anyone expect him to think 'pull the chute' in that time!!

Having BTDT now I know that in hindsight it's very easy to say what you should have done in the fraction of a second before it's too late!

Was good to see TG back, and the Hamster, on our screens!

Yep totally agree once the tyre was blown Hamster was never going to save it!

I think that the story suggests that if he could see the tyre beginning to let go (and it was showing signs that it would let go for quite some time before it actually did), then he could have taken action to safely stop the car. But I think that it was not possible for him to see the tyre clearly from the seat. Also, there was a very strong cross wind and the runway is cambered, so there was a lot of steering input just to keep the car in a straight line at 300mph. Rather a lot to be thinking about!

And yes it was good to see Top Gear back on the box - loved the whole bit about road repairs and Clarkson's "motivational" speeches (and his total disregard for health and safety!)
