Was fed up of dirty lookin expansion bottle so decided to fit a new 'clean' one the other day.

makes the rest of the engine bay look very dirty now.lol

part no. if anyone else is interested is 8A0121403 for the ABY. (its visible on the moulding )

the 3B has an A on the end i think. best check when you order.

You've put the wrong coolant in there mate - no kidding - G12 or G12+ is pink. That blue stuff has some bad joojoo in there which can damage the coolant system. Audis G11 was blue - pretty sure it is obsolete now.

That said - your tip is a fine one - I got sick of my old coolant bottle as the previous owner obviously let the coolant sludge up at one stage giving it that horrible red/brown deposit... Not a good look.

Its not even G11 in there , but just a ethylene glycol antifreeze/coolant suitable for engines with ally heads .

Im sure G12, or G12+ is good stuff, but was told it wasnt compatible with other coolants. been using this stuff on all the I5 audis ive run with no problems yet, touch wood.lol

Whats the added ingredient with the G12/+ that makes it better for the S2?

I'll need to google round for this... Normal old-school coolants can corrode certain elements of Audi cooling systems. I have a notion it is something to do with reactions with certain types of minerals found in water in different parts of the world... Honestly dunno if UK was a bad area.

Circa 1992 Audi introduced G12 with certain additives to prevent this mineral reaction. G12 (Pink) was not miscible with the old G11 (blue).

More recently Audi created G12+ (which is still pink) but this is apparently miscible with G11 and other types of coolant.

Fuctifino basically - there is a more detailed article about this on-line somewhere.

Pink is always good, but Blue can sometimes be bad - now there's a strapline !!!!!

Audi mistakenly (tell me about it ) mixed G11 with G12 whilst my car was still owned by Alg during a service.
I've had the car for nigh on three years now and after 5 coolant flushes I'm nearly rid of the lumpy baby diarrhoea

@ Brian, how much was the new coolant tank please, I've held off getting one due to the above, but may do this soon.

            TIA.

£26.95 plus vat from audi dealer.

a lot of money just for engine bay asthetics, but well worth it for the show and shine.

What is going on. Engine bay detailing taken to new heights with new coolant expansion tanks. Whatever next ? People replacing the under tray/bumper screws because the old ones are rusty

I've replaced the tank, twice on the Avant.

Seems like in the past, G11 and G12 was mixed and gunk keeps being flushed back into the tank.

Yucky stuff, can't be arsed to change it again.

Says the man who wants to change his ARB's because they look a bit rusty

Seriously though, mine isn't for engine bay detailing, it's because it's stained that much yellow/orange you can't see what the fluid level is without removing the cap and it's coated inside with a thick layer of yellow/orange hard thick deposits that I just can't shift.

Eye but at least that keeps the S2 from getting too perfect. You could however start the 'coolant expansion tank detailing forum' with tips on co ordinated cap colours etc.

On a serious note I would get rid of yours. Cannot believe its still brown. Main stealers employing illiterate monkeys and charging me and you for the pleasure of letting them f**k things up
