I've just had to un-seize one of my rear callipers this weekend, the piston was virtually all the way out and the seal had split. Took out the piston and cleaned all the rust off and reassembled and now works a treat. Need to get a new seal or some new rear callipers later in the year but this was a quick fix for now. Should be ok for a while as i replaced the discs and pads whilst i was there so the piston wont pertrude out too much.

Is it just the one caliper that is seized? Give it a go cleaning it first.

seconded, my pistons were fine but the guide pins were stuck on both and the pads fused to the carrier. Took me about an hour to free up, clean, re lube and paint them up then replaced pads and discs, now have stoppers at the rear again

Definately worth having a go first before spending somthing like £100 for a pair of new/recon'd ones.

      Cheers

Chaps, anything out of the ordinary one should know about when replacing rear discs and pads, or is it pretty straight forward?

Going to fit new ones to mine tonight, they're close to going so may as well do it before I sell it.

        Cheers.

Straight forward enough, just don't be impatient with carrier-hub bolts - if you damage the head on one it can ruin your night. Need a nice M8 allen key socket and plenty of loosening juice.

Also make sure the rear pistons are WOUND fully home before fitting up with new pads and discs. These pistons screw clockwise into the caliper - they do NOT push in. Needs a few pushes on the pedal to move the pistons into play again.

Got the disc and pads off, how do wind the piston back in without a proper tool? Bums.

Whoooo, long nose pliers for the win!

That's one side done at least.
