As far as I remember is the S model not the better one to have.

I think the normal 924 had a 2.0 and I think the S had the 2.5 out of the 944 and produced about 160bhp.

                Porsche 924? Nah!

The car developed by Porsche for VAG but it was dropped by VAG for a certain Coupe Quattro

Nah, the 924 was dropped a long time before the Coupe quattro was even thought of. It was dropped because of the VW Scirocco.

The 924S is a good car with super handling (in the dry). I'd spend a little extra and buy an 944 because they look and handle better.

Drive it, and see what you think.

                      I had a red 2.0 924 way back when:
                      udw_side.jpg
I loved it to bits but had to sell due to divorce

Got another 2.0 a few years later, while also running a VR6 Passat. Hated the 924 that time, felt old, heavy, and s l o w.

However, I'm now hankering after a 924S to play with, engine is in a different league to the asthmatic old 2.0, but I'd be ripping it out anyway for something a bit more grunty :mischeif:

924S has disc brakes all round (924 has Beetle 1303 drums at the back!) power steering (muchos needed!) and of course the 944 engine, slightly detuned to 160bhp (unless it's an '88 car)

Handling is very sweet - remember it's essentially an early 968, which is regarded as one of the finest handling RWD cars, period.

One thing to bear in mind is that most porsche owners will treat you like something stinky on the sole of their shoe, due to the bizarre notion that it's not a 'proper' porsche. If this will annoy you, steer clear.

lol, maybe it was the 350mm Momo Corse wheel I had - or your wife is well 'ard!

I agree about parts - If you don't mind using GSF or similar, service/ maintenance bits easy to get and affordable - body parts / interior well catered for by the likes of Porschapart and Prestige Salvage.

I thought the reason you sold the S2 was because you had a bad back, so rather than going back to stock suspension, you sold the entire car

Now you are lokking to buy a low slung sports car, with at least the same hard drive as a stock S2

Surely you should be looking for a big soft ride with a big engine, like an Audi A8 rather than old go-carts?

                            Cheers n fears

                              Mk 1 Golf Power Steering

Girlracer, Just to mess you up further. The Mk 1 Golfs can be retro fitted with power steering.

Use the normal VAG pump and bracket and use a 1990 Nissan Bluebird steering rack with Nissan Almera track rod ends. You will need to use two spacers to mount the rack and make up a bracket to support the gear linkage as per the standard rack.

I have it on my G60 Mk 1 and it is nothing short of fantastic, as you are correct steering is too heavy for town driving. If you are seriously interested I can pass on the full details to you.

TSR Performance who are back in business under new management did this kit previously and I presume they will still be doing it. It really tranforms any Mk 1 Golf.

If you could afford the petrol on the A8, you might also consider same given your requirments (as gleaned from previous posts)?

                              Kind regards.
