    Got banned this morning :-(

Got an intern ban this morning to be followed up for sentencing on the 30th of the month after comunity service and counciling reports.
Got the charge dropped fom dangerous driving, excess of 145mph in fog and wet roads at hours of darkness on a single carrage A road (road was dampish not wet and there was fog but not heavy and not where i was speeding) to dangerous driving excess of 120mph and nothing mentioned about road conditions.
Basically i was speeding (don't want to say what speed i was doing atm) it was an unmarked cid car (mondeo 1.8) that chased me, i didn't know they were as they were so far behind, they said they were doing 135mph trying to catch me and was pulling away strongly and that i admited to doing over 145mph to them. First of there car they had will only do 127mph book speed (said they had spedo checked and calibrated imediately after they stopped me and it was bang on :mischeif: ) and there was no way i admited to any speed to them.
I only took the deal as my solisiter told me if i was found guilty of the origonal charge i'd be looking at a jail sentence, whitch would mean i'd loose my job and that would be bad lol.
Any idea of what sort of ban and fine i'll be looking at (don't think i'll get comunity service as the way my job works coz i don't know when i'll be working or not) Got a very well paid job so recon i'll get a huge fine
    Any ideas guys

    thanks
    Gordy

    Hi Gordy,

Sorry to hear of your situation (don't worry I'm not going to get all judgemental thats not my business).
It's difficult to give an idea of ban lengths, fines etc as there is an almost infinate amount of discression which is down to the courts themselves. The only advice I can give is that if you can give a reason for needing your licence because of your work they are more likely to look into your ability to pay a large fine with a reduced ban. Unfortunatly though I'd hazard a guess your probably looking at a 6 month ban and a hefty fine minimum unless your very lucky because of the speeds involved. Also taken into account will be if you already have any points on your licence? as this is likely to impact on the length of the ban if you have a history of speeding.
My best advice though is to not go into any detail about the incident itself on the net. I don't know if you saw the guy in sussex with the skyline who was bragging about his accident while speeding the police weren't interested at the scene as nobody else was involved, but after his detailed description of the incident on the net there is now a criminal investigation ongoing
Anyway best of luck with it mate (At least the S2's a great track weapon in the mean time )

Good luck with this. Hope it works out as best it can.

As mentioned above, not writing anything incriminating on the web is a good plan!

Yup, I'd keep stuff off the web, you would be amazed how many places 'google' now for information on people when involved in a case etc.

Sorry to hear the bad news gordie it depends on which sherrif court your hearing is and which judge it is if it is in DINGWALL they sherrif there is pretty hard on speeding good luck where ever it is hope they are not to hard on you as you know you are pretty much up against it with northen coppers there are not the best for writing down the exact facts and that has been proved on more than one occasion in court good luck

I have had two DD40 dangerous driving bans. Both of them in a 1986 1.0litre VW Polo!! I had to laugh when in court the police officers claimed they couldn't keep up with me in their 2.0GSi Cavalier

The minimum ban is usually 12 months with an extended re-test at the end. As I was charged with both with 6 months of each other I was given 18 months ban.

It ended up taking two years to get my licence back though as the examiner knows you have been banned. I had 4 tests with Hinckley's most picky examiner and he failed me everytime. The last one was refunded though as after a complaint it was deemed he shouldn't have failed me

My fifth test was with a police driving instructor who was filling in for the local test centre. Passed with on two minor marks and both of those were for being too cautious (can't blame me based on the previous four)

As for fines my first DD40 was for excess speed (70 in a 30) and after agreeing with the magistrates that if I admitted the offence I wouldn't be fined they promptly handed out a £400 fine and court costs.

                    Ben

got 9 points for 5 mile of 125mph down the m5
had 6 points already , and because I lived in a forest(nearest neighbour 6 miles), i received 9 more points, £500 fine but kept my liscence. I was amazed frankly that I kept my liscence. I hope for your sake you live in an inaccessible location. Good luck.

i know someone that had 21 points one his license and was still driving
he told the courts that if he could n't drive to go to estimate jobs
then he would have to shut down his company

Not been flashed for 5 years now (got a few 3 pointers here and there, from the greedy grey money collecting machines ), but I better calm my average speed on the motorways down a bit - it's only a matter of time by the sounds of you guys...

Ouch sorry to hear this... I guess there's a fair few of us that could have been in your shoes at some time or another so you have our sypathy.

The idea that you could have gone to jail for it sickens me... if it was so dangerous that you should be removed from society, why did they feel the need to chase you down? Watched a tv show recently (here in UK) where a cop admitted he would have killed someone coming the other way because of the risks he took to chase a biker down... when he finally caught the guy, he gave him a ticket for an illegal number plate

Anyway I'll not go off on one or turn this into plod-bashing. I'll just say, there's far worse crimes that people get off with less, so I'm glad it didn't go that far.

It is a reminder though, that a minimal-risk early-morning "health check" can end in tears...
