    A Tale of Woe

Had my S2 on ebay, and it did not sell.

Anyway whilst listed had a very strange email from a guy wanting to come and view the car, and quoted "might have a deal i would br interested in"

He would not give anything away, Even called me to confirm he was coming to view and would be coming from northern scotland i said i have someone else coming to view next weekend and that he has 1st refusal. he still wanted to come and again in the conversation gave nothing away, about the deal. (me putting on the advert that i would be interested in a p.x for a RS2 M3 or a M5
had me excited thinking i was getting one of my chosen 3 out of the "deal")

anyhow 2pm comes and this guy rocks up .
Only turns up in a ruddy mondeo estate!

So i start thinking perhaps he wants to buy the car for cash and that is the deal?

I explained again that i have someone else coming to view the car next weekend and he has 1st refusal. I explain that i thought he was coming in a RS2 a M3 or a M5
He replies he has a M5 but is not selling it??

Ok I thinks well i will show him around the car and take him out for a run about.
He likes the car and has a go, drove like sterling moss down the bypass double the national limit! complains about brake fade!

Back to my house and he gets in the mondeo and says let take it for a spin? I am bemused at this point as he starts producing service history and V5 MOT Etc

Anyway i very politly say i aint interested in swopping my car +£3500 for 52 plate mondeo estate. He got quite miffed and said it was simply a transaction and i could sell the car (mondeo) to someone else and what was my problem.
then starts going on about wasted journey, etc

His parting words were he was going to trade the mondeo for a black N plate RS2 in east sussex anyway next week!

    Some people??????

Be wary, there have been a few cars on the forum nabbed after time waisted visits like this, was he here to check out your security?, Call me paranoid, but i trust no body until i have either cash in my hand or know where this person lives/hangs out/works.

I agree with Graham on this, Have heard quite a few tales about this, even to the point where the car is stolen on the night after the first test drive.. :S

yep i'd be wary for a good few nights after that....i think i read somewhere something similar and while the seller was out in the 'buyers' car someone nabbed the car

If i was selling I'd probably do it through pistonheads, always a good turnover of Audis through there, not sure it's anymore watertight but might just ensure the bay to88ers are kept slight more at bay.

Good luck with the sale......keep it you know you want to

Well just to hear the other side of the story ive sold a few cars on the bay and ive never had any trouble at all.
I really think you need to emphasise what you want out of the deal before they even set foot in your car.
I never go on a test drive until ive laid my cards on the table when im buying, that way i dont waste any of the sellers time going for test drives if they are not interested in my offer.

I did find it strange, that someone would travel knowing the car would not be sold to him, not saying anything about the "deal" until he arrived,
I was worried about it getting pinched so I made sure she was locked in the garage with alarm on.
even considered putting the dog in the garage aswell, but thought i would be going too far.
Dont get me wrong he came accross as a decent fella, but just a little misguided, to insist on coming, going through the motions for a thrash in a S2
surely they have S2s in scotland?

I think the thing that got me concerned was he was buying the RS2 anyway, and wanted my s2 to trade in down south? As i said to him its a strange way to go trading 1 car in to buy mine then trading mine in to buy another down south????

Perhaps the mondeo was on the register, or the guy down south with the RS2 would only take a green s2 avant in trade?????

Well no doubt it will all come to light when he buys the RS2 as i am sure he will need the help of the forum.
As i warned him, make sure the RS2 your buying is not the one that was nicked and sold

Sounds to me like he is full of BS and he probably wont be getting any RS2 if all he's got to trade is a mondy estate
