    bmw m3 evolution

hi all my m8 has bought a 2nd hand car 1997 bmw m3 evo ... its got 321bhp and we tested it against my s2 with 260 bhp 320 flbs of torque .. his is faster but get up n go is similar (guess thats torque) ... god its fast ..... and 2day got nailed by an s4 estate .. im thinking it has to be modded!!! .. then later i actually was all over an s3 ,.. so yey!! but too many modded cars out me thinks ...... considering lightening my car soon and uprating everything .. then adding more power!! ....

    also his m3 has miles better fuel coinsumtion ..... 35 -40mpg on cruise - s2 = 25mpg

also his interior is looooverly /..... my first experience with m3 ... and i really like the car /... i want one too!!!! aswell as s2!!

      35/40MPG???

No way!! I owned an M3 up till about a year ago and no chance did it do that on a run!!! Max mpg on a long run was 30....28 was more like it, and thats chilling in top gear on the motorway.
Hope you feel better now with that info

Yeah my mate has exactly the same car as well.

We raced side by side from about 40 to 135 he was only about a car length ahead in the end. Very close

Very nice car, I thought the S2 had a long rev range the BMW can hold it in gear for a longer period.

My mate is no where near getting 30 MPG, much much less but then again he does drive it like he stole it.

A friend has an E36 Evo – in fact we just came back from the ‘ring in it. The Evo’s supposedly make 320bhp, but 290bhp is a figure far more commonly seen on rollers. The car has had a little head work, different cam and a generic map. It’s awaiting a carbon airbox and smaller pulleys I think, before getting a live map and seeing some improvement on performance. Fortunately it has Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks fitted (I’m far from impressed with standard E36 handling tbh) so it goes really well. Also, had to fork out over £2k for some AP stoppers as the OE are not upto the job (what is it about brakes on high performance German cars?) and there are no alternatives from within the range. It came with an AC Schnitzer upgrade package (wheels, full leather interior with Recaro seats etc). Really is a nice car and sounds great. On the evidence of quite a lot of laps of the ‘ring, it could certainly benefit from another 50bhp. I couldn’t really think of a better car for sub £10k to drive across a continent, thrash the **** of it for 5 days on track and then comfortably cruise back (with the obvious exception of something with 4 rings on the front). I’ve even been told by said mate that “I have to get an S2 Avant for next time, so that it can act as the support car”…….more like me lugging his track wheels across Europe!

So yes, they are good cars and surprisingly quick (or rather, it’s surprising how many things you can simply drive away from in such relative comfort – even on the twisties). However, getting the car up above 350bhp will require a serious financial investment – so a lightly modded S2 shouldn’t have too much to fear – on the roads at least.

yes there very nice cars, my mate has 1, ive never heard of a m3 evo makin 321 bhp ive raced another mates 1 stayed about a car length away to about a 100 mph, also raced a m3 evo the new ones 343bhp raced from the lights launched off about 4and half grand leaped a few lengths infront then pulled about 4 to 6 car lengths in front kept distance up to about i think 100mph, i always thought a smg ones (like the 1 i raced) were awesome.
The older about 97 reg ones a quicker than the new ones due to more weight, still nice cars tho

                Great cars.
I love my M Cars - you have to own an M car someday!.
My mate has now switched from the Jap side to BMW and he wont go back - he's got a E36 M3 non Evo in the UK for trackdays and a E46 330 with a Supercharger and LSD for Singapore where he works for the family runaround!.
Non Evo's make about 280bhp, Evo's make about 300, a very fit one with fully functioning Vanos will make the 321bhp but they are few and far between.
Funny that you say the brakes are not suitable for hard use - he put his through a trackday at Donnington and they were fine - yes he got a bit of fade but thats to be expected but they held up very well for stock brakes.
You could always use E34 M5 4 pots or the 850 4 pots to upgrade from within the range.
Also i thiink the chassis is superb on stock set up, depends how tired it is - his is very tight.

                Oh sh*t i broke it
