standard it is 180bhp remap was done at chipped uk

    before
    engine power 178.2hp at 5540rpm
    power tyre 112.4hp
    dissipated power 65.8hp
    correct power din 175.2hp
    torque 199.3 lbs/ft at 3685 rpm

    after

    engine power 204.0hp at 5400rpm
    power tyre 131.1hp
    dissipated power 72.9hp

I think those BHP figures look a little bit optimistic, especially when you consider that the turbo is a K03 and these tend to max out between 190 and 195 BhP.

Are there any other mods done to the car?

the other bits are cold air intake and a forge dv , but these are 180bhp standard , i know the 150bhp models get 195 mapped so was expecting more from my engine , mrc say 225bhp other companys are close ? and the torque seems low shold be more?

The only difference between the 150 and 180 BHP engine is the software in the ECU, hence why you're not getting much extra BHP after a remap

Not sure if it's the same for the A3, but the 180bhp (AJL) A4 has a K03S, which flows slightly better than the standard K03...

K03 should be able to hit 210 bhp with an aggressive map so those figures look good to me.

I think the 150 runs at 0.6 bar and the 180 at 0.8 bar

            K03s I think is about 230-240 remapped.

Sounds ok to me for 1.1 bar. Try running your K03 at 1.5bar. :mischeif:

I didn't think longitudinal 1.8Ts got K03Ss. I thought it was just the later transverse engines.

I hate to say this but the turbo that is fitted to the AJL engine is the same as the turbo that's fitted to the standard AEB 1.8T 150 BHP A4 engine. There is unfortunately no such thing as a K03S turbo from KKK in Germany, only a K04 upgrade unit which is good for about 210 BHP

The K03s exists, Audi engines with the codes AUM, ARX, AUQ, ARQ, BEX have them from the factory.

I dont know where you got the fact it doesn't exist?

Jamo, the turbo's fitted to these engines are classed as just K03 units, there is nothing special about them. How do I know? well I have the 3K Borg Warner turbo charger programme on my computer which lists every single 3K turbo currently made

Can you post a link to show me where it says K03s? I'm curious to see it

I am no parts guru, but a friend was looking at this subject recently. It seems that internet wisdon suggests that the K03 and K03s differences include a different compressor wheel (from a K04).

Also, many tuning companies and parts suppliers mention K03, K03s and K04, so you would think that (me like) that the K03s exists.....However, on a a SEAT forum, someone emailed Borg Warner asking whether he could swap a K03 with a K03s without needing to change other components and what HP advantage they estimated he would gain with a remap and below is their answer........

                        Dear Sir,

thank you for your interest in our products.

First of all, we don't produce any turbo that we call K03S. But I hope I can answer your questions with the following explanations.

All the following turbos have the same installation dimensions and thermodynamical performance. The differences are only in the actuator that opens the turbine bypass valve:
                        K03-011 (5303 988 0011) 150 hp, 65 N actuator
                        K03-026 180 hp, 85 N actuator
                        K03-035 180 hp, 85 N actuator
                        K03-044 150 hp, 65 N actuator
                        K03-045 156 hp (Ibiza Cupra), 85 N actuator with 2 ports
                        K03-049 150 hp (Sharan/Alhambra), 65 N actuator
The 180 hp versions have an actuator with a higher opening force due to the higher exhaust gas pressure (which is a consequence of the higher boost pressure). Otherwise the valve would be pushed open by the exhaust gas pressure.

The following turbos are a further development (since 2000) and have an improved and slightly larger compressor while using the same turbine (still with the same installation dimensions):
                        K03-052 180 hp, 85 N actuator
                        K03-053 150 hp, 85 N actuator
                        K03-058 150 hp/180 hp, 85 N actuator

Consequentially, putting a 180 hp turbo on a 150 hp engine will not bring about any change in performance, but putting on a K03-052/053/058 instead of the older versions will bring a slight improvement in engine efficiency. Additionally, with re-mapping the ECU you can achieve about 215 hp without danger of overspeeding the turbo. With the older turbos, 195 hp is the limit.

With the K04 that's also commonly used (5304 950 0001) the power output should not be more than 220 hp. That means, changing a K03-052/053/058 against a K04 does not make a lot of sense.

I hope that these details answer your questions. If you need more info, one of our service distributors will be glad to help you. Their addresses are on our website www.turbodriven.com.

                        Mit freundlichen Grüßen/Best regards,
                        BorgWarner Turbo Systems GmbH

Therefore, as far as I can tell, the K03s is a myth, however a late K03 seems to have the spec attributed to the K03s and if you are after every little ounce of power would show an small improvement, but I suspect would be a lot of buck for very little extra bang.

                        Cheers n

K03 + K03 sport, call it what you want to but there IS differences between these two turbos. How else would you be able to squeeze so much more out of the turbo? IIRC, Doug's mk4 did 226bhp and 269lbs/ft with a AUM engine + K03s

I'm leaving it at that TBH. Every tuner and even most VW garages refer to the turbo as an K03s.

                              What's in a name eh?
