About to start a new job (engineering student placement job at DENSO), and I will have to do 60mile round trip everyday, 5days a week for probably 46weeks of the year. Now, is it worth getting a 2nd car, instead of putting excess millage and wear and tear on my 90k S2?
I don't want to get a car and find out it doesnt offset the running costs of the audi!

i would mate, dont laugh my daily driver is a 1.5 kia mentor. cheap as chips, nobody looks at it and they are worth peanuts. w reg saloon (size of mondeo) worth 500 notes.
Also when i work on the s2 its nice to have a car to save you and nip to get parts for when the audi cant be put back together.
The best thing though is it hates going over 70, its impossible to speed!
Therefore if I'm getting say 24mpg in the audi... what kind of mpg wud i have to do in a car which cost say £200 + tax and MOT (saying it passes lol) to make it worth while.
I got quite annoyed on the M1 going to the interview with all the new Beemas and Mercs up my **** and trying to undertake, so prob averaged about 5mpg in the end LOL

Hmmm, not sure about the maths but sounds like you need a beater and 25 mpg does sound optamistic in the rush hour run! trouble is you won't want anything too small on the motorway.
Ragusa Coupe gone!

Deffo go for the second car. If you can insure the 2nd car cheaply it will pay for itself very quickly, by saving on fuel, tyres, mileage and general wear and tear on the S2. I did this nearly three years ago and have never looked back. I started off with a horrible old 1.6 cavalier as a daily and I am now on a MK2 Golf GTI 16v, so I can have fun on my non S2 days too.
Good luck
Cheers,
Steve.

Definately go for a shed! I used my S2 daily to go from Surrey to heathrow (100 mile round trip) on some of the uk's worst roads (A3/M25/M4). I was stubbon about wanting the S2 as my daily driver and loaded 50k miles on it and mostly under 40mph. Cost a fortune and leaves my car now at about 180K miles.
I'm now looking for a golf or something to run into the ground and leave at the station...and i'm only doing about 6k now
Got to be an Audi 80 for second car.
You can get a pristine example for less than a grand on the bay. 2.6, 1.9tdi.
take your pic, and most parts are the same as S2 so you'll find your self swaping the best bits from the 80 into the S2! bonus!
My pub car will do 400 miles on a tank round town! thats twice what the RS manages, but it has alot less than half the power!

I just bought a mint, no rust whatsoever, 1982 Mercedes 200 D ( 60hp ) for a puny 2750 Euros that will turn 25 years old in August which means about 29 Euros annual road tax and only about 250 Euros annual insurance premium here in Belgium.
40mpg, bullet proof reliability, extremely low maintenance costs and will retain all of it's value when it gets sent to Morocco or likes in about 10 years !
The only thing wrong with it is it's color ! I've nicknamed it the "Turd"
You know you gotta keep the faith and the four rings so its got to be an Audi 80 diesel. My mate bought a cracking M plater with 145k for £850 does about 45 mpg. Im currently and secretly working on a master plan trying to very subtly remove our mpv from the role as the wifes car/daily driver and gently introducing the features and benefits of the S2 avant to her such as air con, leather, getting about a lot quicker(and about the same mpg) and then im free to hunt down my noggy RS2 i can imagine that view of those two beauties on the drive mmm lovely
S2 + RS2 yep ive had a few love em... Laser red S2 avant... Brilliant black lhd RS2... Polar silver RS2... RS blau RS2... CheeRS Al
derenately go for an 80tdi, i bought mine a'95 1.9 with 130k for £600 with fsh no rust, ran it for 18months put lots of miles on it drove it like i stole it most of the time. In that time changed the oil and filters twice, set of rear pads, one tyre and the most expencive bit was a brake componsator valve (iirc about £80) sold the car after 18 months for £700 so couldn't complain.
The car never missed a beat no reliability isues at all. Got good mpg if kept below 85mph prob about 45-50 mpg. Enough power to overtake without a problem. Best allround car i think i'd ever bought. When i get my licence back will be getting an a4 tdi as a second car as prices on older ones are getting dirt cheep now.
Got to agree with the last comment i used my 80 tdi to go to nottingham from inverness sat at 100mph all th way from glasgow to lancastor and the car never missed a beat best car i have ever owned the car has 151000 miles on it and you would never know it just AWESOME
I had a 80 tdi avant with 194k on it , never missed a beat either but as i was only getting 38-41 mpg it is cheaper for me to run my mk3 golf driver am getting avg 35 so quite happy
