Messing around with pipes It all depends on what you want to specialize in. I was a gas engineer for about two years with british gas, was a pain in the neck, have now become self employed and moved over to oil installations, servicing and general Plumbing for domestic dwellings, a word of warning it is not cheap to become qualified and registered plus the cost of test equipment. The real money is in industrial servicing, £150 for the first hour then £90 there after , im lucky as my brother inlaw specialises in all that and im able to give him a hand now and again he must have spent over £10k in registration fees and test equipment to get him started, i am hoping to move over in to that field as it is far more interesting.

Presently everyman and his dog is training to be a plumber,i was at college doing some exams(sparky) a couple of years ago and there was a waiting list of 2 years of something daft to get onto a plumbing course.I can see within 5 years or so there wont be enough work for all of them.

Electrician? They seem to be a very rare breed and in demand.
          Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

Raj sorry to hear it mate, there's a shortage of Sparkies nationally.

There's been a big drive to push for more plumbers

Cheers guys i thought about offshore as i was a forklift engineer when i left school for 5 years worked on electric gas diesel forklifts so i always have that to fall on but to tell you the truth i only just got married so i feel offshore will not suit me at this moment in life but hey i dont have much choices at the moment lol

Well guys as i said before i was wanting to get into being a plumber or sparky but i got offered a job i could not turn down my local council was looking for mechanic/engineer to work in the social/careers dept i have my own workshop all the tools you could imagine some that will never be used LOL
i work from 9am to 4pm i would have two kids with me and i would be showing them basic mechanical skills so they can gain a certificate to gain entry into college if thats what they desire to do i even have my own office thats a first for me. The kids are aged between 14-16 and are kids that are classed as unexseptable for school (Could have my hands full ) and i have them for 3hrs at the most could be quite a rewarding job giving kids a chance in life
Believe me i dont agree with some things the social side do as taking kids out to football and taking them out for food and other activities as some of them take the piss and latch onto the freebies but the thing i am doing is to teach kids a skill well thats my view of it

Just thought i would share the ins and outs of my new job to the forum family
