Good old looky underneath is required mate, i had oil spots on the back of my golf for a long time and it was a leak from the gearbox. As already said check diff, gearbox and of course could be engine oil. Oil coolers and oil pressure switches are prone to leaking on these cars and the oil sits on the undertray and doesn't drip on the drive but gets dropped on the move. Hope this helps.Ragusa Coupe gone!

Oil cooler is easy to check, just get under the car and take off the undertray. The cooler is behind the bumper on the left as you look at the car. The bumper vent channels air but sadly debris towards the cooler and all the carp sits at the bottom of the cooler and rots it. Quite common.
Not sure if it would smoke if the turbo seals have gone but would have thought so, another worry is if the oil is coming down the exhaust it could wreck your cats too
I would look for the other stuff first, get under it, no use panicing till you rule out the common stuff
