Got pulled with mine too, no fine just a rectification notice to take to the mot man! Got some plain pressed plates in the uk font and stuck them on. TBH i know they are slightly naughty but its all about what they can do and what they can't. My minor infringement is easy to do me for cos i register, tax and insure my car. The wally who drives uninsured in an old beater with no tax and mot can get away with murder cos he has no money so what are the courts going to do to him? Nothing! Sorry just had to get that off my chest, feel better now

Pity no amount of insurance would correct that... And even if plod managed to catch the feckers when that happens - and it does everyday - what *really* gets done about it ?

A large fine, some penalty points, a prison term (that will be greatly diminished by 'good behaviour' when the gaff gets too busy). Its all irrelevant from that point of view.

I know you'll all say they should be after real crooks etc, but they have the plate recognition systems for a reason. Put it this way, say the law did away with it and didn't give a toss. Then some ***** uninsured driver comes round the corner and kills ya kid.
          What then?

Plates look great, if you use them then don't be suprised or pi**ed off to get pulled.
No disrepect but the only reason the cops pull you over is to get their stats up.

Traffic Policing is all about hitting the required monthly stats to justify the stations budget sad but true.

And before anybody jumps up and down on me, this is coming from my Police friends who Andy Casey can testify too are on the ball in birmingham!

And to generate income (which may well be one of the less publicised stats) from speeding (etc) fines.

            Ck.

Completely agree with this statement. People who drive round uninsured, untaxed, un moted, with no license in a shitter of a car just get it taken off them and crushed. They'll buy another shed next week for £100 and crack on as before.

              Annoying as f*ck

I agree with you all. I didn't give a good example. I was just saying they have the recognition gear for a reason.
But!!! they are still illegal whether you think they should or shouldn't be.
All I'm saying is, if you use them, then don't be suprised when they pull you up.

You do have a point Jas, breaking the law is still breaking the law no matter how trivial it may seem. I run the risk because i dont think the punishment for it is that bad, its risk worthy so to speak.

If they dished out 3 points for having them on then i'd take em off for definate.

Whitedog has hit the nail on the head - those of us who like the individuality a german style plate give should be prepared to take the risk of being pulled, in the same way that those of us who own cars that are blatantly designed to perform way beyond the legal speed limit (all of us?) are willing to take the risk of occasionally straying over the legal limit should we consider it safe to do so. (I'd like to see anyone with a 'sporting' car deny that they have ever intentionally gone a little over 70mph)

In both cases, it's a little frustrating (even if fully justifiable in legal terms) to be pulled up when we see infinately worse road-craft around us that goes unpunished.

I know it is not anything to do with the german plates but my brother has just fitted this front number plate on his car. He has had it on for over a month now and not been pulled. He has just came back from travelling in France in it and it never caused a problem there. I have told him that surely that cannot be legal as the font size is not what the law suggests.

What are your views on it?

Sorry for hijacking the thread but I thought it was the bext one to put it on with us all speaking about number plates.

Looks like a bike plate to me. I'm not a fan of small plates (except on bikes of course) so i'm not keen, but he'll probably get away with it as its on the front of the car. A copper will only see it if he's heading towards him and nine times out of ten he probably wouldn't be a*sed to spin around and go after him just for a small plate.

Trouble with us german plate lovers is that if the old bill is behind you in traffic it gives him the ideal oppourtunity to sit there mulling it over as to whats "not quite right" on the car in front. Then its normally nine times out of ten that they'll realise and pull you for it smugly pointing out that "the font isnt quite correct is it son".

                        "No **** sherlock"...

This goes a lot like my motorbike (ZX9R Kawasaki) and many of my friends bikes.

Personally I want the bike to be all legal, that includes the exhaust (I do believe noisier are safer but they upset people), the tyres, the lights and especially the number plate. Even my visor on my helmet I have original clear one on.

My reasoning being, if I get stopped I will almost definately have been speeding to some degree.

I want the copper's to not find anthing wrong with the bke or me other than the occurance I have been stopped for.
One problem they are more likely to be lenient about, especially with everything else well above board but takr the piss with it and expect trouble.

I do like those plates though.

And Andy----------- your car looks amazing.
