You should be ok removing front shafts as long as you fit a stub shaft to the front hub to stop wheel bearing collapsing....
not sure if front diff will appreciate it though...

Won't cutting the blue wire to the difflock give enough sideways fun and still retain 4WD for the rest of the time?

          Lol!!

Throw away the current drivetrain and stick the engine, with a front drive gearbox, in the back!

            Wow

In answer to your question consider installing a torsen v8 rear diff then you can keep it 4wd and drift the car at the same time so you keep it like Audi intended it.

Cheap option - buy a Porsche 924 and stuff a 3b engine in it - 5cyl block will bolt straight to the 924 bellhousing. Muchos rear end action muchachos!

Step 1. Sell car to someone who appreciates quattro 4wd
                Step 2. Buy RWD car.
Step 3. Put biggest wing you can buy on boot.
Step 4. Take "drifting" lessons from any Japanese person
Step 5. Wonder why you ever sold CQ.

Was there a horse tied up outside ?

I once had a navigators job in a road rally series over here with a friend who had this Mk2 Escort - the rear diff had failed the night before an event... So he welded it shut - the car was just about undriveable - only had about 100bhp but all of it sideways.

You can lock the centre diff on the non torsen equipped Urquattros - with 016 gearbox. The WRC cars actually ran with a solid centre diff to guarantee permanent 50:50 torque split... Only really suited to gravel/dirt/mud/snow driving - or lots of tarmac 'drifting' if thats your thing. Hilariously good fun no doubt, but not the fastest way round the track.

Why bother? The Cq is fine the way it is. If you make it RWD it will still be front heavy and will still understeer maybe more. The chassis will be confused and behave violently between understeer and oversteer when on the limit. Not fun.

Just buy a cheap E30 and don't ruin a good Audi.
