    MOT Failure :(

    Hi guys,

just got back from teh MOT station.

It Failed - Not on what I thought though!!!!!

Failed on non working rear licence plate buld one of not both.

failed on moving ball joint on front drivers side!!! (just got to tighten it up)

Failed on Front brake lines (just need to cable tie them out of the way of the roll bar they are rubbing on)

    And the biggie!!!!

    All four wheel bearings

So going to tighten up teh driveshaft bolts to see if that has an effect!! finger crossed as the rest is easy!!
Funny thing is I have had no noise from the bearings at all.

Sounds a bit suspicious to me Az, all 4 bearings??? I am sure you would have known something if they were fubarred...
Hope its an easy fix anyway, good luck......

Thats the thing, The fronts have little play, the one rear has a bit more play and the passengers rear has mega play.
I won't let anyone do an mot without me on their shoulder. (i have learnt the hard way before)

The good news is with the exhaust etc being done it absolutley blitzed the emmisions test!!!! even with a high 1500rpm idle!!!

      Better get that sorted then!!!

If the driveshafts havent been tightened properly then you might have damaged the bearings already... Worth tryingto tighten them up properly one more time, but if that doesn't do it then its worth knowing that the wheel bearings aren;t expensive in themselves.... Its just the PITA of removing everything to get them changed.

Make sure that they are pressed in in the correct order to avoid damaging the bearing, that they are pressed in the correct way round AND that they are pressed in all the way home. I've had a lot of rubbish to sort with wheel bearings not being done correctly. See this thread and go to post 16.

                Right good news and bad!!!

Sorted it all out (tightened the hub bolts one was a bit loose I must have forgotten to tighten them up fully with the car on the ground)

Rang them up and manged to get a test this avo!!!

Here's the kick in the nuts.

Got down there and the brand new (remember that bit) brake lines for the porsche calipers had split on the passengers side right where the hose meets the union!!!!!

                NOT A HAPPY BUNNY!!!!!!!

So needless to say a full retest was not done. I have got to get the hose off and get another one made (will be contacting the supplier soon) to sort it all out. Just hope that I can get it all done monday!!!!

Got to the bottom of the leaking hose today and it was leaking both ends (passengers side only but will have to watch the drivers side now me thinks!!!) The hose ahs not been crimped properly at the ends so it has been seeping from here and eventually gone big style. Will have to get some mad eup in the mean time and speak to those concerned asap!!!

I suggest that you take your car to a mechanic who uses a tool ("Hub Shark") that can extract the wheel bearings from the hub(s) and then press the new one back in all WITHOUT removing the strut or hub from the car. Very quick and efficient IMO.

No probs with the wheel bearings anymore - was just me being a bit dim witted and forgetting to do up the driveshaft bolts

Right had a brake line made up today - Three times - just to get one that doesn't leak!!!!!! Strange how they kept on leaking from the same spot.

Also shame now I can't get back in for an MOT till tomorow.

                        Cheers

that's a string of crap you don't need mate. On the plus side you'll be coiled like a frikkin spring so when you have the MOT certificate in hand I fully expect to see you past my way while running it in.
