just nick Sonic's clio untill you get the Avant back!
you'd have to be doing a good chunk of miles in a second car to recoup the running costs of insurance and tax etc. Not to mention the fact that you would have to have to fight the urge to take the s2 all the time
Common misconception I only do what 6-8k a year but the 2nd car pays for itself in petrol alone.
I was using £40 a week in the Avant / Coupe In the Golf I do £30 every 3 weeks
So Avant / Coupe petrol usage = £2080 a year Golf Petrol usage = £520 a year
Thats a saving of £1560 which more than covers the insurance and running costs of a second car plus gives me more cash for Avant Mods
When i was doing up my old S2 ( dead now-***ker vectra driver)
I bought a vw polo "breadvan" for £50- cheap everything and you weren't bothered where you parked it,if it was bumped ,anything.Ran it round for 18 months and sold it for £75. Apart from fuel and the odd top up it didn't cost me a bean. It is rewarding driving round in a car that you don't give a 5hit about. Bangers rock
On the morning of GTI the car refused to start and a compression test revealed a massive loss on 2 cylinders. This was coupled with a huge pulley hole in the intercooler...
Until today I've been i the dark and the car has been sat at Corey's, however he's just called to say my engine is out and in bits. Some alloy fragments, presumbly sucked in from the intercooler, were jamming valves - fortunately there is no damage to the head it just needs a good clean, and there is no damage to pistons + bores, rather than just change the oil Corey is going to tear it open and give it a good clean down to ensure nothing is blocked, etc that could be a potential problem. A complete pain in the ***** but that's life.
Operation clean-up & rebuild is already underway, hopefully next week there'll be some updates on my thread
You can use the clio if you want - this one's got 16 values
Its literally been sat on my drive for 5 weeks - funnily enough from about the same time i got my s2. Think ive used about £5 of fuel in the last month, and £70/week since in the s2
Insurance runs out in september i think, tax beginning of september, but i'll be renewing it anyhow, MOT november, but i'll be getting that passed just before i sell it in mid september/early october (whenever i can get my no claims off it!)
If it's a cheap run around, with alot better fuel consumption u want, then have a look at Peugeot 306 dTurbo, sweet handling, and get a pre Hdi model ie a 'dTurbo' and you'll have a slight satisfaction of the turbo spooling up....for about half a second
Phase 1 and 2 recommended, the phase 3 hdi's just aint as much as a 'drivers' car as the old ones...
Cheap as chips! You cna pick up N plate ones for around 300-400 quid or phase 2 at P or R/S reg for a grand and there abouts...
Cheap erm diesel thrills
