what to clean engine water channels with?

    Hello,

The engine i am just rebuilding has quite a lot of build up around the water channel walls.
    Looks a bit like limescale.

God knows what coolant and water combination it was running on..

Any one know what to clean the channels with?

    Thanks in advance.

If you've got the block stripped down, take it into your local engine re-con shop and ask them to 'hot tank' it. I had a V8 block done recently for £20 and it came back like new.

Ohh man, I wish id asked that before had. I just spent the last two days cleaning it with parts cleaner and masking up, so its ready for painting now

Is there another way to do it that doest involve hot tanking?

maybe limescale remover or a steam cleaner?

I know its not an engine block but vinegar boiled up in a kettle and left overnight brings it up like new, dissolves limescale completley.
Haven't heard of anyone trying this in a cooling system though, cant see it wouldn't work, its only acidic water
