Will Prices Start to go up ??

As a weekly reader of the autotrader out of curiostity i have started to notice s2's going cheaper and cheaper some as little as £2000.
I was wandering in 4-5 years time when they become twenty years old or so will the prices start to go up? By then there will be a fair few less on the road and surely start to become classics and collectors items????

I've been talking about this with a couple of people now, most seem to think its people who don't know exactly what they've got and just think its normal audi's that they are selling which unfortunately is bringing the prices down for the rest of us. Still sooner or later they will go back up, take the UR for instance, they did drop in value a little but now are going back up.

i think the S2 will eventually raise in price and level off, prob in about 5-7 years. not sure if they will hold their money aswell as the UR's purely because the S2's are less iconic.

I think, S2's are in that 'blind' area of their age, where they are not, quite, appreciated for the iconic car they are, yet will become a true classic... The size and enthusiasm of this forum's membership it testament to that. I'm sure it'll boil down the same as the Ur's in time. That being the price will be all over the place and not necessarily (but should be) based on condition, where you'll find (as I have with viewing several recent Ur's) complete basket cases at £4,500, yet guys with mint, fully restored at £7,500 who can't find a buyer...

Age, mileage, condition and breed all seem to have very little bearing on the 'dart-board' approach to Ur (and ultimately S2) pricing.

That's where prices bottom out and finally start to rise again. Supply - verses - demand

I think S2's have always been a dark horse,if they were given there 15 minutes of fame they deserve it would open peoples eyes to what a fantastic car they really are
Those of us on the forum know these cars and what they are all about and that is why we are here and own them.
I think prices will remain constant for a bit, they just haven't got the legendary iconic status of the Ur unfortunately, but that doesn't make them an inferior car,far from it they are superior in my eyes,I still love Ur's though and if I had the cash I would own one too.

Lol think most of us would like a ur

Still whilst the prices are low I think we should enjoy them.

              Totally dependent on Condition now.

I am fairly confident I could get close to £7k for mine which it what I paid for it. (Its close to concours)

I shed of a 3b can be had for a grand as has been proved. (Or £450 if you are a lucky son of b****)

The won't ever get to 5 figures again in my opinion, but will hold value if you look after it.

Then again, we aren't in it for the money and I won't be selling mine anytime soon...

              Cheers,

              Steve.

the guy that owns / owned Wayside Audi in MK has or had a literally showroom UR in the showroom , he'd owned it from new, about 300 miles on the clock... he was apparently offered blank cheques and turned them down..... now thats a collectors item.

I suppose its the same with any high performance car, you get what you pay for more or less, sooner or later all the sheds will be gone and value will increase...

I think one problem with S2's and to a lesser extent Ur's is the general public don't see them as 'old' cars... Their generally kept in good condition and the shapes are a 'classically timeless' design.

Buy Spares now - Great Cars

Consider buying spare cars or major or minor spare bits now while “relatively” cheap and relatively available? When was the last time you saw Mk 1 Golfs easily and cheaply available?

Obviously space and finances are limiting factors, without even thinking of time constraints for those with kids.

But if you’re in for the long haul, and you can be with a five door avant, it is a suggestion for consideration?

Great cars - 2.2 Turbo, 5 cylinder, 6 speed, 4wd, abs, separate decent sized intercooler, oil cooler, run on water pump, ellipsoid headlights, leather steering wheel, white clocks, 3 extra clocks, sunroof, air con, tinted glass, leather, carbon fibre trim, “Audi 80” door handles, Autocheck, electric windows, central locking split rear seats, front foglights.

The list goes on before taking into account gorgeous sound, great looks - check out the gallery, easily tuned - homefry (and the rest!) unobtrusive and “stealthy” great build quality, galvanised bodies, I’d better stop myself here. Don’t want to appear like a zealot or display the affliction too overtly.

All in all a very hard to match package and good value for money, and best of all only a limited number of people currently know about these cars. Sold my Mk 5 Golf GTI DSG and bought an S2 Avant!

p.s. there are a few negative points, e.g. front brakes, but further satisfaction can be obtained from correcting such minor points.

                        Happy driving!

well i guess that prices are just started to go up. i often check mobile.de for s2 and i noticed that there is less and less s2 available for sale and prices are going up constantly.
in our country perhaps (slowenia) you could buy quite good 3b s2 for about 2000-3000eu about year or two ago, now there is only one for sale for much higher price ....

my thoughts exactly. Why does it matter if the price of a S2 will increase by 50% in 5 years time? You wont make a profit as you will need to spend 2x what the car is worth to keep it running untill then.
