I've never cleaned mine, but its running a bit keik at the minute. Need to put the spare MAF on and see how she goes. I have found a UK porsche specialist that claims to be able to test and recalibrate MAFs like ours. I'm going to contact them to see if I can get going on that front. Once I establish some trust with the outfit I may ask for some folk to offer up their MAF for tests as I want to gather some realworld data from their flowbench - with and without screens - S2 and RS2 variants. So that we can put an end to all the speculation, rumours and allegations on the subject.

I agree with your last sentence Paul.
Seems the more technical a part is on our cars, the more theories differ on the subject in question.
I'm a newbie to playing with cars, and as much as I rate this forum and the punters on it, it can be frustrating working out which way to turn after reading answers to a thread.
Having said that, the input by you guy's on this one makes for interesting reading.
Who know's one day I might start understanding it all.
Keep up the good work, the newbies would be lost without you.
    Thanks.

Well after a long and frustrating time of intermittent fuel cut problems - caused by overboost protection - I now appear to be utterly cured. The root cause was my MAF. I finally got round to fitting a spare that I had - just needed to find it again. Its like night and day. The old one would drive 'fine' up to about 3/4 throttle, but if you nailed it in 3rd or higher you had a good chance of boost cut.

Now - oh boy do I have the grin factor back again... And I can feel more mid range urge as well. I had my share of minor boost leaks and loosening spark plugs along the way which threw me off the scent but it was the frickin MAF all along - and not one fault code either - except when it threw up the overboost protection.

So now I have good MAF and a bad MAF - it will be real interesting to see how these fair on a flow bench test in respect to output voltage.
