I am upset also but sure will get sorted. Basically, new bumper required, new black strip required, strip under number plate and paint work also.. is there a chance insurance could write off? ? ? Obviously, third party insurance paying and no cost for me..Missing her lots!

Yeah, i guess the bumper done its job and slowed the smash down, center light cluster looks ok, just need to get the bumper off and have a look behind it.
Also find a good garage of your choice to complete the work

I know this is little consolation, but as long as the boot floor is relatively undamaged it could be a lot worse.
You need the new rear metalwork under the lights and new bumper, but at least there are less issues of blending panels in and no rear three quarter panel damage.
Good luck getting it fixed and insist it is done at the garage of YOUR choice. You want your car back perfect again.

Sad to see this, but could be LOTS worse if the rear quarter had been dinged.Paul Nugent

Almost had the same on saturday afternoon at the end of the M8 in edinburgh. Waiting in the queue for the lights to change and heard the sound of a big wet skid and had plenty of time to see some 60 odds year old woman sliding her escort up behind me. Just stopped in time. It was close. Almost the first time I would have punched a granny.
Your back panel should pull out OK but will need a bit of filling and painting to finish it off. The alternative is to insist on having a new back panel welded on and sprayed. I don't know how much you can insist upon when dealing with an insurance company but it's your car that's been damaged and your money if you're considering the car's value.
If it's a write-off just make sure you're getting to buy it back. Hope it's not though. Good luck.--------------------------------------------------------------------

That is not a write off. I was hit from behind in my 90 quattro. Boot floor deformed, lid needed replacement etc. My insurers body shop asked if I wanted to keep the car - I said yes and the repairs came to about £2200 ( just about top whack its resale value at the time ). Finished repair was invisible. I spent 10 days in a bl**dy Matiz while it was fixed. The car ended up getting T boned by the 2nd owner after me. I was upset to say the least after all the hours put into her...Comment

it's all part of the great circle of life.. erm.. well.. parts. Your 90 died so that other 90s could live on. tragic though.
I agree that there's not much chance it's a write-off given the value of an S2. god help you if you ever have a written-off s2. the vultures will descend upon you.
