I doubt he'd have given you a good price after the high pitched squealing noise you made at that point anyway Az.

Its people who think they can make a fast buck out of stripping something like this that pushes the price up for enthusiasts like us. The annoying thing is tho someone somewhere will probably pay that for the engine, mostlikely someone who cannot get hold of one cheaper for less or unfortunately didn't get the s2 etc in their country.Comment

This really pisses me off, given that:
a) I hate to see any good old car being broken when it's perfectly serviceable (extra points for using the word 'serviceable'), let alone a rare and beautiful car like an S2.
b) I'm in the market for one and might well have given it a good £2000 paint job if the rest of the car was right.
Seriously, everyone should boycott people who are doing this kind of thing and cut the market out of it for them. If they didn't think they were worth more broken, they wouldn't do it.

Unlikely to be a cat b just for paint, more like a c or d.
They probably bought it for pennies from the insurance and just break them to make a huge profit, knowing that there is a following- so people want the parts (and will pay)
Ive bought complete cars before for next to nothing, taken off what ive needed and sold the rest- purely due to people asking way too much for the parts i was after in the first place. The thing is these breakers have got deals with the insurance companies and get first shout on the cars, as long as they buy all the vw/audi write offs they have- all the insurance companies want is what they have shelled out- I know a breaker that bought an MB engined Ur quattro for £800 that had roof damage from someone running over it-by the time i got to it it was a bare shell and the breaker was laughing his **** off that he'd made a fortune selling the bits!!!!
Breakers are there to make money- they don't care about the cars- but if you wanted a rear subframe for your S2-wouldn't you be glad that they had broken one??
Swings and roundabouts!!
