Started the car after work today to the sound of a nasty rattle

Thought for a second it was the dizzy gear, but no.. it sounds terminal.

Dosent sound like bottom end, seems to fluctuate and rattle with revs, more like a broken valve/spring. Hard to tell with the audio quality.

When the big end went on our AAN it was very different, solid thunk thunk noise that would go away with just the right amount of throttle.

Either way well done, aint easy to break a 7A, and i've been trying

For a quick fix i'd pull the sump off and take a look, chuck a few new bearing shells at it and hope for the best

I can't get the video up,but I have had this happen to me, and it was the oil pump. The oil return valve siezed to be precise. I also thought it was the distributor, because the knocking was at the back of the engine, but it it was the back journal, its the furthest from the oil pump so its the first to suffer from oil starvation.
I even took the sump of and checked the first three, and they were fine,so I put it back together. Ended up taking the head of and noticed that no 5 piston droped down a few mil, the rest it history.

My plan it this. Remove the known healthy engine fomr the CQ20 project car, stick it in the 'runabout' rattling coupe, and then rebuild the bust one, and stick it back in the CQ.. sounds simple...
No seriously i've never done an engine swap before, i've only got space for one car on the drive, and i'm scared

I need an engine crane and no doubt lean on you guys for virtual assistance when i get stuck

Can be the fluidpump or something too. But you're gonna have to get dirty to find out the problem

Easy peasy mate I have done it a few times now...... Easier with an engine hoist but just as possible with a high lift jack and a few peeps to ballance the engine, then just drag it out of the front. \lots of easy dismantling (esp as there is no intercooler to remove/play with)

No probs will chat close to the time as mine is coming apart today to fix the PSP and also teh crack in the inlet manifold (sort a few other niggles while I am there too......)
