doesn't this make the TG test of a few years ago redundant??....
didn't they pass a camera in a TVR over 170 and it not flash.......
must of "improved" the camera's of late.....

My reaction to seeing berk with speed gun and doing a steady 172 in safety (997 turbo) would be to not stop when chased after, I might have stopped before this rediculas sentence. Won't stop in future!
Hope you have a helicopter! Mutha hubbards!
May as well try get away than be dry bummed for admitting the offence.Rob..

There was nothing remotely safe about what this guy was doing - I'm no speed-nazi. If he was doing this on an empty well-lit motorway at 2am - fine, on a clear-ish autobahn - fine, on a racetrack - fine. But to be doing over a hundred mile an hour over the posted limit (so realistically about 90 mph over the average speed and 70 mph over what even the people who are fairold moving are doing) on an A-road (not even a motorway) in the day time is dangerous and when you throw in the mix that he was out for a jolly in a car that wasnt even his the guy deserved to be caught an punished IMO. Personally I would have banned him for life.Haynes Manual:As described in Chapter 7...

Seems as safe a place as any to explore the upper limits of a Porsche!
Silly boy got caught didn't he!
(I have seen 1.45 leptons in the same spot

So you didn't know the stretch of road? KaraK? Then don't assume!
Porsche doing 172 will stop quicker than your aunt mavis in her shagged out MOrris Minor doing 70, but she's not braking the law!

I kinked with laughter at the quotes in the news last night that the car would have needed 500m to stop from that distance - what a load of rubbish...
Can't condone what the idiot did though - thats just crazy speedPaul Nugent

jail sentance is just silly. ruined his career and ruined his life... yes life, that record will stay with you forever. for what? because he broke the speed limit?
Tell you what, if my boss gave me a go in my dream car and said see what it can do, i would probably do the same.
If it was so dangeraus then porsche woudnt of built that machine.
Im assuming the road was empty, there were no pedestrians on the side of the road, and no school/houses on that road... so whats the beef?ABY Coupe

Ahhh Ski come on - 172 on the public road - its crazy - if anyone had pulled in front of him, even after checking mirrors, he would have been up so fast behind them that it could of caused a huge accident... What if that was you driving your kids to school and some **** in a Porker rear ends you at over 100mph ?
I'm as guilty as anyone with the occasional need for a little extra speed - but the time and place for that kind of speed is on a racetrack - even on the Autobahn you would be taking some risk. At least the locals are much more used to that kind of high speed driving in Germany, but in the UK you would be rightly shocked to find those speeds on the public road.

Have to agree with Paul on this one, 172mph is a crazy speed on public roads, Yes the porsche has amazing stopping power and yes maybe he knew the road really well but travelling at those speeds must mean reaction time is non existent before you see something wrong.
The punishment does not fit the crime, thats for sure though

Steve :- seems to me like I listed 3 safer circumstances in my post!
GT500 :- You're right, I dont know the stretch of road personally, but I still stand by my opinion. And when did I ever say my beef was with the law in this one? I said that I thought it was dangerous, in the same way I would agree that my mythical aunt mavis in her mythical morris minor doing seventy is probably dangerous - its the dangerous part I have a problem with not the nuances of the law
Ski :- It's fairly common knowledge that getting caught at 150+ will mean jail time and all the associated consequences - regardless of wether you agree with the penalty or not, he can be reasonably expected to be aware of the results of getting caught so he has only himself to blame. No one put a gun to his head and made him decide to do that speed.
PS: I wasnt really calling GT500 a "crack head" I meant it purely in a colloquial "What you just said sounded crazy to me" kind of way. So I apologise for any offence as it was not intended in that wayHaynes Manual:As described in Chapter 7...

But;
IMVHO in a very fast car, you could get up to 170 and down again on that particular stretch of road with no danger of anyone pulling out (no junctions) and at the right time of day not overtaking anyone and also be able to clearly see the road ahead within the (admittedly fairly long) stopping distance.
All that said, none of us know what time of day it was, how he was driving, if he had checked his tyres recently etc.
What bothers me most is the "SPEED KILLS" and 150mph plus will kill. It won't. I have done it a number of times very safely.
Cheers,
