Just been reminded why we own these cars

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to share this with you.

After putting the car back together in a hurry ove the past two days I have just got back from a 400mile jaunt up the m6 and back. And I don't feel tired in any way. Cruised all teh way there and back without missing a beat and the note from teh exhaust was all I needed as a soundtrack.......

Brilliant cars shame about the fuel consumption (£65 of BP ultimate used) but still we don't have them for that do we....

I have noticed a few bugs though which I would like to pick brains on.....

    1. Boost seems to hit 1.4bar breifly before being reigned in to 1.1bar on WOT??? Is this right or wrong.. 3B engine with digitec chip (must get it mapped as soon as the pennies fall in the right slot)

    2. On the way back it got dark and the needle lights came on, the stereo turned off, then back on and the needle lights went off. I now have no lights in the dash needles, the Aux needles and the fan/heater controls. I know al the bulbs are good as I just replaced yesterday all the center console ones with new ones so I didn't have to rip the car apart to replace the little blighters again.....
Is there a fuse that controls these????

good to hear its on the way back.... nice one...
I think you might have powered the radio or something from the wiring near the booster pack on the rear of the aux gauges.....
If you try the lights again now, they will probably light up,I think you just need to check the radio and gauge wiring in that area...

The radio is powered fromt he stock leads that are there and the plasma's are getting power from the glove box light (don't see why you need that actually but that is me )
Was very strage how it happened almost like a short..... I have turned the car on and off and had the radio off and the lights on vice versa just to see if the ligths work and the most confusing thing is the clock and comp displays both light up normally but when the ligths are turned on they don't?????? STRANGE??????

Don't they just the reason for the journey was so a friend of mine could pick up a Ford Mondeo ST220. Nice car, good interior - No guts under the bonnet!!!
He kept ringing me asking me to slow down on the motorway as he couldn't keep up......
But then I bet his fuel consumption is better than 19mpg.....

Actually - you do forget how comfy the S2 is to drive on long journeys - I had a 4hr yomp yesterday (that normally takes 2 so I was well hacked off but thats Dub traffic for you which delayed me just enough to hit the Belfast rush hour - so called progress) - anyway - I didn't have the slightest discomfort.

So true... I drive mine from Romania to UK, and then back again, each way is 30 hours driving in less than 2 days,.... is really nice on the trip....
Much more comfortable than my newish BMW 320D (now sold thank God), but at almost triple the fuel cost...!
I still reckon its worth it, and its great to hook on the back of a modern 'fast' car on the autobahn, having people wonder how an old Audi 80 with a roof box can keep up so well....

Sorry, forgot to answer your post, getting sidetracked with singing the praises of driving for hours in one of these cars.....
I am sure that when my booster played up, the clock and comp display stayed lit....
maybe simply that your problem is with the booster, but this doesn't explain the radio thing....
I was hoping it would simply be the same problem I was having, clearly not... but it does point towards that booster thing on the rear of the aux gauges for the lighting troubles....

so thats 30hrs x 2 = 60 hrs....in 2 days (48 hrs) - I knew these cars were fast, but yours must be quicker than the speed of light to cram all those extra hours into 2 days!

Remove one of teh plasma dial sets from the line and try again..... May be the new oost guage??? Will try to sort today anyway....

Easiest option and I bet your problem is, just turn the dash illumination up as I had this problem before and it adjusts the power to everything its the left knob by the rev guage and temp guage.
