Crashed... It's ok but I've hurted her

hehe as the tittle says... I've crashed my Coupe Quattro... Last night, when I was going out from the work... on the way home I decided to "play" on the wet (a raining nigh ) with my Quattro. I don't know but is a little hard to drift (almost impossible) with my weaky 2.0 20v engine. So.. when the use of the handbrake became a must the game became funnier too. When turning, I was going a little faster than the other times...my hand slipped out from the handbrake, and I got out of the road to a kind of bushes BUT in those bushes were a piece of armed concrete and a big log... well I got stucked by I don't know whith what thing but my left lower arm got stucked with that thing... It took me about 10min to get out form there... a lot of clutch, rear tires and gas! hehehe thank God I'm AWD !!! And thank God that I have the whole front suspension on the garage ready to be installed too. The lower black part of the front bumper broked (not too much), the L fog light glass broke too and the L turning light...well, it's broken too SHOOT! What a long... hour!

    Cheers guys

yeah though... I'll leave the car to the mechanic on monday to rapair the suspension. Then I'll have to look for a big junk yard for another Coupe and take it out the bumper, fog and turning light

Doesn't using the handbrake on quattro cars knacker the centre diff or just wear out the handbrake?

                      Handbrake ?

                      While trying to drift ?

Mmm - you need to declutch to get the handbrake to have any wheel locking effect while moving... There's a couple of hairpins near me where I've been known to do that - there is some gravel so its fun - and its safe as you can see a clear distance for such a move.

If you want the rear to slide with quattro then you need to change some rules... Like make the rear end REALLY stiff, or lock the rear diff (and cutting the blue/white wire at the difflock controller deletes the 25kph speed limit where it normally goes back to normal).

I'm no expert on sideways driving but I'd say its quite hard to get any normal quattro to 'drift' in a nice balanced fashion on tarmac unless you have these kind of modifications.

I have been able to provoke it on throttle in a wet roundabout - again where there was lots of room for safety margin - the trick is really to NOT lift off when you feel the nose breaking away - its against intuiton.

However I have also been caught out in similar wet roundabouts where the front starts to break away, I keep the boost on but then the understeer just gets worse - absolutely horrible when that happens. I don't get to drive on the limits of traction anywhere near enough... I really should try and get onto a skidpan with it - we all should actually !

The quattros that are famous for super sideways action, on blind rally stages - not these rice ridden Dino D Horrendous drift races on a contrived circuit, did so on gravel, mud, snow with a LOCKED centre differential and LSD rear differential. Dunno if front diff was open or LSD.

When the TOCA touring cars were dominated by A4 quattros, did you see them drifting around the wet races while pulverising the competition ? Ehhhh no

Paul... let me say to you... GOOD POINT! hahahaha NO, I have never seen any TOCA car drifting. Then YES, that thing about drift and doing some donuts is a little ricey! lol but I love to get some controlated oversteer! And finally, YES, I was declutching when using the handbrake! I'll do that trick of cutting the wires hehehe KIDDING! I'll put a switch to avoid that speed diff lock off! hehehe Sometimes the car drifted very nice on a dry road but going very slow (less than 30mph and in 1st gear) on cornering. First of all, I need to get the car all repaired before anything!

                        Thanks for your comments guys!
