  • will a B6 3.0tdi work in a B5 A4?

ive got a B5 2.5tdi quattro which has eaten the majority of its cam followers and most of the cam lobes have no lobe left on them.

so for about £650 you can get a rebuild kit.........however :mischeif:

i have been offered a 3.0tdi donkey with all the ecu and loom etc for a good price, so queston is..

    will the b5 dash/imobilzer work with a b6 ecu?

.... thats about the only bit that worries me to be honest, i can work round other obsticals but wiring and ecu's and imobilzers

    what are peoples thoughts,

i eventually want to B5 RS4 pannel this car so thats my main reason for contemplating

    regards
    Will

may be able to get some wiring diagrams for you but I need a little more info on the vehicles, although Im not sure If its possible to save them to a file to email you. I bought this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120744786660#ht_1091wt _1139 Which has lots of wiring diagrams on it and other stuff too, thats where I would get the info from. Let me know if you want me to see if I can get the info for you, will just need years of engines etc.

I installed it on an older XP system that I use for ETKA too. In fact it came with ETKA. It works great, missing some diagrams and info for our older cars, couldn't find one for my coupe ACE engine. But your site helped with that. Thank you for putting those up on your site by the way it has proved to be extremely helpful

Back on topic - It came with very clear instructions on how to install too.

Brilliant - worth a punt then... tis true that the older cars dont have schematics and other info covered there. Sorry for thread diversion BTW.

Hi will, sorry I just realised my dad has taken the laptop with it on to work, he uses it for landrover workshop manuals too. I'll have a look tonight or tomorrow for you.

ok i have the wiring diagrams now :-D

now from what i can make out reading up on can bus,

can bus is a shared information system like a local area network,

so engine speed information etc may be shared with traction control etc, and signals from all ecus are linked to the dash to bring up warning signals via a processor rather than a wire to a bulb.

only can bus item i can see on the b5 is the dash link?

so what are peoples thoughts if i wire the high and low speed can signals from the b7 in to the b5?

it comunicates a binnary code to the central control unit for speed signals etc, all audi/vw can bus runs at the same speed, what are the chances that the early dash processer will understand the later ecu signal?

anyone got any can data logs for engines around 2000 and a log for a 2006 car?
