My wife took her B5 S4 for an MOT today and it failed on incorrect headlight adjustment, front position lamp not working and rear brake binding. It also had various advisory items including one for: Engine Covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay. For a start the front lamp works ok and I have never heard of an advisory item regarding an engine cover. The car is absolutely standard and this has never been raised before. Has anyone had a similar experience? Will definitely give them a call tomorrow.

post the full list matey.
and the engine cover advisory is standard, covers our **** basicaly.
just means they cant see the engine so iff theres something wrong or leaking, they cant see it at the time of test no big deal bud.
bulbs come on and go off, if its ****ed just change it
brake binding, if it sits a lot they suffer with binding brakes on the back, i was forever freeing off the caliper sliders! they usually snap when left for a long time!1993 URS4 Avant Emerald Green 350+bhp

Can't comment on the headlights other than that they should be service-minded enough to adjust them if they are out.
Engine cover is a part of the CMA(cover my ***) protocol. They can't be bothered with taking it off, so potential leaks and such can't be seen as easily.
Edit: Too late, damn iPhone! If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

Thanks guys. The full list of advisories was:
Rear tyres close to legal limit, which is fair enough
Oil leak. Not sure I believe that one, but will check it over the weekend. Had it on the ramp in July and also changed the oil at the time and it was completely dry underneath. It's not used any oil since then.
Under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components.
