  • RS6 or M5 (e39)

Once the S4 has sold i will be looking to replace it with either a RS6 (c5) or a BMW M5 (e39) just looking for peoples informed opinions.

Obviously as an Audi man my heart would be with the RS6 but the M5 seems a better car on paper.

Other than Drc and gearbox issues does the Rs have any other problems, turbos?

    Any advice or opinions welcome.

    Thanks,

    Dan.

Id go the E39 M5 (my brother has one). They are a great cars and dont cost anywhere as much to run as RS6.

        Ever seen this E39 M5 ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXQKDybMc5Q

ex M5 owner here and was without a doubt the best car i've ever owned, just did everything so well.

I've been tempted by another one recently,(an ex Mark Webber car) but a new kitchen takes priority at the mo! Look at facelift cars (2001 onwards) and make sure you check for Vanos issues. they've got a bit of a name for drinking the Castrol but mine used next to nothing.

its a very good looking car and as most BMW users have told me these cars rarely have the amount of problems ours have, but for me they lack the kick.

I love Audis but would have to say E39 based on what I've seen/heard. Just don't get a Maserati. This must be the worst piece of 'ring driving i've ever seen:

M5 all the way for me too, I love Audi's but M5 does it over the RS6 anyday.
Just some finishing touches to do now

Plus the M5 is a manual while the RS6 is a crappy auto.

Have you heard of Alex Roy and what he got up to in his E39 M5?

His book "The Driver" is a good read: http://www.gumball144.com/the-driver/

I'd bet the track is insanely greasy after recent rainful with a few dropped leaves just to make things interesting.

BIG money to run both, a recent thread on SRS came to the conclusion that it costs about a grand a month to run an RS6.
My mate has got an M5 (e49) and he said the running costs are pretty crazy for that too

As stated earlier, my brother has an E39 M5 and I have an RS2, they are about the same running cost exept the M5 uses more gas.
